you mean g1sniper5 is the cheapest?
wah cow.....

Yes, if you want at least 2 electrical 16x slots. If one slot is enough you can go with the MSI Z87 MPower which seems to be a good overclocker.

Hmm. Whats plx? Im currently using a single 670. Not sure whether to sli it. Are those boards 1150? o_O:s11:

Yes, they are. :)

The Z87 doesn't have enough lanes for more than 1 electrical PCIe 16x slot. If you want more slots at full 16x speed you need an additional PLX chip on the mobo. If you want more native full PCIe 16x slots you need to go with another platform like LGA-2011 or AM3+.

Hi guys. Whats the best mobo to pair with an 4770k? :s11:
Too early to say, suggest you wait a few more days for the dust to settle (and the distros/shops to size each other up and fine-tune prices) so unless you are in a big hurry.

With many reviewers/endusers less than enthusiastic reception to Haswell, there seems to be enough stock to go round this time. :)

Oh. But the z87 can support sli cards if got plx chip? The g1 sniper no need plx? o_O but more ex?

Yes, I would definitely wait. Most brands haven't even released the full specifications for all their boards yet and I would wait for more reviews. You never know if one of those shiny boards has a fundamental flaw.

am3+ only pcie2.0 ....nay

That wasn't the question. :) It's still 16x. :D By the way one AM3+ mobo supports PCIe 3.0 already: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FXGEN3_R20/

The Z87 chipset itself has also only PCIe 2.0 lanes. ;)

No, SLI has nothing to do with PLX. If the board supports SLI, it does support it but without PLX it supports only 8x speed instead of full 16x speed. Anyhow, the G1.Sniper 5 has a PLX chip! :s12:

You will have to wait a bit longer than for the 2nd batch. The current revision is number 4 and revision 5 will contain the fix. It will ship to mobo makers on the 15th of July (revision 4 gets discontinued on the 31th of July). It will take a while before you see those new boards in stores, the earliest would be by the end of August I guess.

well...z87 haswell has at least one native pcie3.0x16 slot. am3+ does not...better to stick with intel here.

If you want PCIe 3.0 with AMD you can buy an AM3+ mobo with PCIe 3.0 but I agree, if you need PCIe 3.0 Intel is a safe bet.

Btw Intel X79 + Sandy Bridge-E also don't support PCIe 3.0 natively:

So the only way to get native PCIe 3.0 are the entry level platforms Ivy Bridge and Haswell. :)

It's an issue that has been known when you purchased the board, if they aren't nice they won't accept a RMA. Anyhow, if you RMA the board for other reasons they might just replace it with another old stock they have.

actually x79 supports pcie3.0 natively, it is just some consumer sb-e cpu "may" run into problems with pcie3.0 since pcie3.0 lanes are in the cpu now. and intel being quite cui of late, let this issue slide aside when releasing sb-e.

but the cases are very very small unless you super super sway. never heard of any local x79 users suffering from gpu not able to run pcie3.0. :D even the infamous nvidia kelper anti pcie3.0 can be resolve with a patch.

uncle mac and gang, one interesting question is how does haswell handle the "free" turbo boost on non-k cpu with z boards?

can we still run non-k cpu at extra 400-500mhz more just by making it all cores with turbo boost in bios....or even better?

According to Intel even the i7-3970X released in Q4'12 doesn't support PCIe 3.0 natively, just go to their product page.
Intel® Core™ i7-3970X Processor Extreme Edition
It clearly says: PCI Express Revision 2.0
If you have an Intel document stating PCIe 3.0 I like to see it. I never saw one but that doesn't mean anything. Maybe Intel forgot to advertise it.
X79 mobos are PCIe 3.0 ready but I expected the current CPUs don't really operate at 8.0 GT/s no matter what gets reported. Maybe the upcoming Sandy Bride-E will unleash the 32 GB/s bandwidth.

Waiting for delid and overclock reports... Overclocking looks worse than Ivy Bridge.

The power consumption at load shows virtually no improvement (can anyone say regression?)

I might as well sell my Phenom II and buy a 2nd hand Sandy to undervolt...

I will be selling mine :o

Performance improvement is kinda disappointing, however with video encoding, every little bit helps...

Performance improvement compared to your i7-2600K? It's the same performance class just newer so I wouldn't expect much. To step up one class makes more sense.
So which one are you going to sell? :)
