I wonder if buying from Tandy or LeatherCraftTools is better. Anyone has any view on this?
I am starting out so will buy a lot of basic tools.

hi experts, I have a leather bag (tanned colour) that is partially faded. Is there something not too expensive that I can DIY to tan it back to a similar colour? Colour accuracy is not important cos it's not a branded bag but it's my workhorse and it's a pity it's front portion is faded. Basically I just want it to have some tanned colour back. Thanks!

I've bought from LeatherCraftTools and Springfieldleather. Both are good.
My tools are from LeatherCraftTools, made in Japan. Quality stuff.

The appeal of tan leather is such that it will appear lighter in some parts, darker in some parts. Patina process. The worn-in look is very appealing. Have u tried leather conditioner? Not only its good for the leather, most leather conditioners tend to darken tan leather .

hi joe pilot, many thanks for the reply :)

my leather bag is very very faded outside that is facing the sun but still quite nice new tan on the inner (touching body) side. So it's a really huge discrepancy. I like the tan colour very much that's why I wanted to re-tan the outer side again. I agree a slight worn in look is nice that's why I do not mind colour inaccuracy as long as it's still the tanned shade of colour :) I've used a leather conditioner several times, bought from Amazon.com. it did darken slightly but eventually the fading on one side is still too obvious. Is there tan colour dyes/lotions that I can just apply and leave dry?

Anybody used waterproofing spray on leather shoes to waterproof them before?

yup, i sprayed it on my moleskin wallet from thelittlelink before, cos my back pocket there tend to sweat a lot. it nows doesnt absorb my sweat anymore, but the texture becomes slightly different.

but honestly no point, unless you soak your wallet in water frequently

Short Review on Dicon StrapShine

I am still in my journey into Horology and never have I ever thought about taking care of my leather straps. 3 years ago, I meet a reall nice guy who introduce and open my tour about watches. I always take care of my watches well, protecting them from knocks and bumps. Straps are always a sidekick always in my opinion.

This nice buddy of mine caught me off guard with a new product, Dicon StrapShine. It nourishes, waterproofs and cleans watch straps! I am quite skeptical at first but with the trust in him, i bought 1 small tin to try it out. When it comes to leather care, mink oil is usually the first product that comes to our mind but not all mink oil products are great with every leather product.

I look at my aged leather strap and it has been though many weathers and abuse. The color has nice patina but i can feel the leather harden over time. I took a swipe in the tin, start applying it on this raw leather strap. I applied a very thin layer sparingly without much exccess. Quality over quantity huh?

Going about my usual business and allowing StrapShine to settle in. The leather darkens upon applying but hey, this is natural for Strapshine is made from natural ingredients. Beewax and mink oil are a great combination that we can even use this as lip balm. How can anyone believe it?

After 30 minutes, i return to my strap. First touch surprised me! My strap is smooth and soften so much, it feels just like a new born baby body. The color of the strap has returned to its natural color too! I am truly amazed by the transformation totally.

I standby this product now and hope anyone who wants to have a go at giving your straps a great spa, try Dicon Strap Shine for a start. Have a search in Carousell or most local watch community and forums in Singapore, you should be able to find this product. Last but not least, I tried it and believe, you should too.
