What is wrong about this is, they overpaid those friends, well, you can say, that is okay, it is still legitimate business transition. No corruption and no foul play right?

But it shows one thing, WP do not understand the market, secondly they fail at negotiations. Why would I hire someone who will spend an extreme amount of my money to outsource for a job that could have been done with half the price?

It comes to the point where you have to decide, if WP simply fail at negotiating or they are in for the money.
