Edit: Just wanna update this post with my thoughts after proper testing.

I ended up getting the Yves Saint Laurent Y EDP. It's a fresher fragrance but a bit on the sweet side. Honestly not my favourite, but objectively it is hard to dislike. The sweetness is similar to pineapple syrup. Longevity is fantastic. Sillage is still present after about 6 hours. Can't comment on projection.

Prada L'Homme is a very unisex fragrance IMO. The note is described as iris and it's supposed to smell floral, but to me I associate the smell much easier with nyonya kueh, specifically kueh lapis nyonya (the one with 7 colours, not the cake). A little sweet, and I personally find it a bit too cloying. It doesn't smell like soap to me at all, as many people have described. Longevity is great, and projection lasted about 2 to 3 hours with only one spray.

Prada L'Homme Intense smelled much better on strip than on skin. L'Homme's in-your-face iris was toned down a little. On skin, it was just lingering in the background. You can definitely smell the same DNA, but the patchouli note is more prominent. It smells a little similar to ADG Profumo (which also has patchouli), so I ended up associating L'Homme Intense's scent as an incensy floral fragrance. The iris top note disappeared quite quickly so what you're left with is more patchouli than anything.

Acqua Di Gio Profumo takes the original and adds incense notes. If we don't consider the original, Profumo is just fresh with an incense undertone. Longevity is decent, but not as good as Prada L'Homme. Projection wasn't as good too.

John Varvatos Artisan Pure smells like Snake Brand powder to me that isn't as spicy/minty, and I mentioned in a later post this is the only fragrance that I like to still get whiffs of after a shower. It just has a super clean smell. Longevity was mediocre though, but it helps that these are really affordable. A full 125ml only costs around $60+. I really believe this is one of the best hot-weather fragrances. Even if you're not fresh, catching a whiff of the powder scent makes you believe you are.

Prada Luna Rossa Carbon is a clearly masculine fragrance. The best way I can describe it is the smell of plastic, but you round out the edges and add a wee bit of sweetness. I believe the plastic was from the metallic tones, and the sweetness is from the bergamot. It strikes me as subtle and mysterious, and it's hard to dislike.

Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue Intense doesn't smell exactly like the sea to me, but it really comes close. This is the freshest fragrance that I know of (disclaimer: which isn't a lot). It smells a little sharp and bitter to me.

Bleu de Chanel EDP smells a little like D&G Light Blue Intense, but the bergamot makes it a little too sweet for me to think of it as a fresh perfume. I can see why people love this, but I prefer other fragrances which offer a little bit more.

Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme is fresh, citrusy and hard to dislike, but I don't find it to be really special. The price tag really doesn't help.

i like y edp more than sauvage, it has pretty good performance too, 8 hours+ on skin

Hi all, looking for some recommendations and opinions. Newbie fragrance here but I've done as much research as I can the past week.

I know these are all popular fragrances anyway, but I'm hoping for something that's not as "everywhere" as Dior Sauvage and with decent projection/sillage and longevity.

I have only been testing on paper strips (and then putting right under my nose) because I was only out for a few hours. I think that might be the reason why I think Prada L'Homme is too strong, and why Chanel Allure Sport Extreme smells similar to the blue fragrances.

I'm currently interested in these:
Yves Saint Laurent Y EDP: Haven't had a chance to test it yet, very close to blind buying this.
Prada L'Homme Intense: I didn't like L'Homme because the smell was so strong, but this has a bite under it which makes it more likeable.
Bleu de Chanel EDP: Haven't had a chance to test it yet
Acqua Di Gio Profumo: I like this because of its freshness, but I know this is everywhere. Or is that only true for the original?

Also tried a few today:
Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Intense
Versace Dylan Blue

To my untrained nose, these 3 smelled very similar in the opening notes. Haven't had a chance to see how they perform after a few hours. I was really interested in the Chanel but it didn't stand out to me.

D&G The One
Salvatore Ferragamo F Black

The One is my favourite out of everything I tested because of the vanilla notes, but I think they would both quickly become too cloying in our weather.

John Varvatos Artisan Pure
John Varvatos Artisan Blue

I felt these 2 were really similar too, but Artisan Blue resembles green tea which I think smells better.

can try dior fahrenheit or ysl La Nuit De L'Homme both nt as common me think

I was interested in La Nuit de L'Homme, but didn't want to fuss with issues with the reformulations.

I checked out Fahrenheit yesterday out of curiosity, and the opening was really nice and interesting, but it gave way to a super strong leather smell which was nauseating for me. :s13:

I have a number of fragrances in your list

Blue de chanel edp
Sauvage edp
Chanel Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme edp
D&G the One Edp
Prada L'Homme Intense
Acqua Di Gio Profumo
Versace Dylan Blue

All are good. I will wear a particular fragance, depending on the weather, the occasion and my mood for the day :)

For everyday office fragrance on a sunny warm day, i prefer Bleu de Chanel. For night dates, i really like The One and also Prada L'Homme Intense

Tried YSL Y edp but did not really like it.

Thanks for the info! I almost copped a decant of the L'Homme Intense too, but I figured I wouldn't have much chance to use it anyway since I'm quite busy nowadays.

Do you find the Allure Homme Sport Extreme is similar to Dylan Blue and ADG Profumo like I did? It was my first time trying out fragrances so I think I kinda screwed up :s13:

Nope. I dont. The Chanel Allure Homme Sport Extreme gives me a very bright cheerful vibe. I wear this when i am feeling particularly happy. To me, the ADG has a much darker tone. Blue does not smell as sophisticated as the Chanel. Dont know how to express it. Lets say if Blue is one dimensional, than Chanel AHSE is three dimensional

You can also check out https://www.fragrantica.com for more reviews of the various fragrances

Thanks!

Yeah I've been on Fragrantica so much these few days. Unfortunately I'm still not very sure which notes smell like what other than iris (from Prada L'Homme) and leather (from Fahrenheit) =:p

Edit: The whole summer/winter category is fairly subjective right? I've been using that to avoid super sweet fragrances, but I felt that some of the fragrances I checked out like the L'Homme Intense seem quite versatile even if the peeps over at Fragrantica don't think so.
