Extending molex wires

BryanWu, i have a M12II-500. Intending to use molex extension wires (50cm if i can find)

Would like to know if there is any limit to how long the wires can be extended before it start losing too much volatage across them.

Need help on deciding PSU

Hi i'm currently running the following -

Intel Core 2 Quad (2.83Ghz/1333Mhz FSB/12M Cache)
MSI P45 Neo2-FR Mainboard
Aeneon X-Tune 1GB DDR2-1066 CL5 RAM x4
Seagate 1TB SATA-II HDD
XFX HD5870 1GB (875M) DDR5 XXX Edition

I understand that using a wrong PSU can be disastrous and be at the losing end. But how about too much power say 1000w, can it hurt as well ?
How much power do i need and what kinda brand is reliable ? budget 150 - 250.

they should be Acbel E2 based. This design is more than 5yrs old.

I hope gigabyte's not trying to sell some cheap build PSU through its brand name.

Power Supply enough?

Hi,

I wanted to build a computer and the parts are:
Giga byte Z68P-DS3
I5-2500
Seagate 1Tb 32M
Seagate DDR3 2Gbx2
XFX HD 6950 800M 2GB DDR5

Cooler master hyper 101 cpuFan, C-MASTER Vortex Plus CPU Cooler, 212 plus(with 2 fan), Cooler Master V6 CPU Cooler.
I don have air-condition in my room and i'm going to put it under a table where my leg will be(or beside me a small table)

With a DvD writer
Speaker (take it's power from the cpu)
Webcam (take it's power from the cpu)
wireless mouse and keyboard

Need extra power for wacom and external harddisk.

So how much wattage the power supply should i get? I calculate that i need 500w so if i get 520w is it save enough?

how much real power needed and how much extra to be safe ? can anyone help me ? answer my question ? kindly please thanks in advance

motherboard = 40w
HD6950 = 200w
rams = 10w
dvd = 10w
hdd = 10w
4x fans = 20w
4x usb devices = 10w
total: 400w
add 20% headroom = 480w.

500w to 550w should be ok.
Go for higher efficiency units if you have the budget as it produces less heat and lowers electrical bills.

an overclocked 3770k to 4+ ghz would probably consume around 100w-120w

the gtx680 TDP is just 195w without OC

add those plus mobo rams etc which usually adds up to another 100w

and its about 420w. add 20% headroom = 500w

500w-550w should suit your system well.

750-850w if you decide to SLI in the future.

go for higher efficiency PSUs with 80PLUS Gold or Platinum to minimise heat and electrical bills.

I personally like PSU from Cooler Master. Apparently Corsair PSUs are pretty good too. Worth checking these 2 brands out.

how u know the watts needed for each conponents ar? Fr google? I also wan to learn how to calculate..

i'm thinking of buying a new desktop, and someone reccomended me hexa 500W psu
does fsp hexa 500W has good build quality? and is it stable?

the tentative comp specs:
1. intel i5 3330
2. gb h77m
3. cm n300
4. 8gb ram
5. 128gb corsair force gs
6. palit gtx 650 1gb (may consider gtx650ti if its price drop to S$150)
7. dvd-rw
8. windows 7 (or 8 but till its stable)

i may even consider creative z sound card if the price of the above specs drop below S$900 (i'm hoping so, since 4th gen is coming out and rumours of 700 series gpu)
i know that 500W shld be sufficient
but is it good?
