might try out other brands due to the following:
1. slow OS updates
2. multitasking not very good on samsung (even compared to htc 10)
3. samsung got too much back end processes running

Their performance actually getting better cos of Google not cos their Touchwiz is better lol. The thing is since Samsung is popular, a lot of 3rd party stuff are available for it and their camera is pretty good. These are the 2 reasons that are holding me back.

1. Totally agree
2. You should compare s7 or s7e vs htc10 as s7/e cpu is on par with htc10. Samsung support multi windows, minimize windows to floating icons. Htc10 support that?

Check video for speed / multitasking test

3. Simple fix by using package disabled pro to disable whatever apps/services u don't need
4. U should compare battery life. S7e has fantastic battery life

To keep this thread alive, wanna do a little survey here. With HTC 10 looking pretty good and possibly smoother OS with comparable camera, how many of you will still be planning to buy Samsung the next time round?

will buy the note series again, but dependent on the features. reason being the functions that i have come to know and love about the Note series cannot be found on other phones in 1 single phone.

e.g.
1. ability to copy and paste using s-pen from any app (even IG)
2. Smart Select and Scrolling capture. Also, the ease to annotate after capture
3. The stylus to write on. Maybe I am a pen and paper kind of person. There is this aspect about physical writing that allows me to process what is in my mind better

I don't really use things like multi-window but it is a nice to have for the times I need to refer to different apps so that's nice.

The stylus with its accompanying functions are useful to me. But i will also take note on the specs to see when its time to upgrade.
Camera and stylus is too useful to let go.

2. wierd. but i saw this video on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cz6CPxGMaQU
and i must disagree with what you said whether is it on par or not. if you compare specs wise, note 5 isnt far away from htc 10. its the software that makes the difference. samsung is always concentrating on new firmware for their new phones, and dont really pay much attention on their older models

3. i have package disabler pro. not much difference before/after disabling 138 apps

4. s7e has fantastic battery life i know. partly might be related to their software and also the bigger battery size.

The thing is, unless i know someone using HTC or LG giving genuine positive feedback, it's really difficult to trust tech websites and fanboys comments :s13:

My first smartphone was Galaxy S and i've been using their phone since. Honestly, S was a horrible phone with the stock TW. But S2 was a tremendous improvements but Samsung phone up to Note 3 has always suffered from performance issue after sometime of not rebooting the phone.
I know it was partly Android's fault but Samsung just made it worse with their skin. And their camera, while taking good photos during bright light, was pretty hopeless in low light and not to mention taking too long to open.

Note 5 is so much better coming from Note 3. See if Nokia can come out with better stuff. My main concern is battery life and camera and being flagship i expect performance to be good. As for stylus, i think it's more suited for tablet cos many times i try to write something, i tend to have limited space on it hah, but one thing it's very good for is signing documents.

I love multi windows and floating screen but it won't be a concern anymore since Android is supporting it natively. And their implementation seem better and smoother.

agree with what you said with regards to feedback of the phones. but samsung multitasking really aint that good compared to other phones around and especially to iphones. I think iphones really excel in their OS level in terms of idle battery drain, multitasking and backend process running.

I owned a samsung s2 and note 3 too. i do admit that samsung has gone through a lot and improved quite a bit since that era but i think they still have alot to improve on.

my main concern about a smartphone is battery life and multitasking without having to load the application/webpage all over again (which will consume more battery). battery life on note 5 aint that good tbh. max can only squeeze up to 4 hours of SOT on it compared to s7e which can squeeze up to 7 hours and we are talking about only 600mah of battery difference. Not sure why is the difference so big, but i think the firmware and kernel of the phone plays a part. Software update is also another concern i care about. I have same/slightly lesser battery life after updating to marshmallow on my note 5 even after factory reset. Cant complain much though as some experience very bad battery life after update.

2. You do know there are 2 variants of S7 right?
Since you quoted PhoneBuff, lets me show you this also from PhoneBuff

They are running the same software but you can see the different is drastic.. This is echoed quite a lot on discussion groups also.. I'd say the kernel has a lot to do with the multitasking and great battery life as the chip is designed and built by Samsung so they know how to tweak and optimize it.

In Singapore, we have the Exynos version so I think we are luckyto have a more efficient CPU compared to the SD820.. The GPU on the 820 however is much faster tho but playing games all day long and the need for the fastest GPU to run games that really stresses out the GPU isnt my cup of tea anymore. What I'm more interested are other features like better multitasking, fingerprint sensor, external SDcard support and bigger/better battery life. The rest of the features like IP68, 4GB RAMs, curve edges screen are not important but just icing on the cake..

Lets come back to Note 5 vs HTC10, Note 5 is using the Exynos 7420 vs SD820 on M10.. You cant say the 7420 is not far behind from SD820.. If that statement is true, then the SD810 is not far behind from SD820 and SD808 is not far from SD810, the SD805 is not far from SD808 and the SD801 is not far from SD805.. The list goes on but if you look at benchmark, you know that statement is no where true..

Lets come back to benchmark tests over the internet, you will find that the 7420 is not on the same league as the SD820 but towards the SD810 found in the Nexus 6p or the HTC M9 so you are bringing in the 2016 latest flagship from HTC vs the previous 2015 flagship for comparison? Why not Note 5 vs HTC M9? Lollipop vs Lollipop.. Also, do bear in mind Note 5 only recently updated to MM 6.0.1 and there isnt much test going on for it anymore as its already an "old" phone when there are the S7/e out now

I am not saying that TW is perfect.. TW has always been slower than stock android no matter what due to the heavy skin/customization Samsung has put in.. I've been using Samsung phones since the Galaxy S also and up until S7e, I have never been in favour of their TW.. I'd say TW has really improved alot.. I mean to the point where it is "bearable" in speed. Is the UI and multitasking as fast as my Nexus 6p? Not yet but it isnt that far behind either and it is bearable.

Samsung did value add features like multiwindows and floating icons which is not found on other phones.. LG has some multiwindows but it is quite restrictive as compared to Samsung. And yes, N will soon have multiwindows so Samsung need to find other value add or they will soon lose their "speciality" ..

You cant compared IOS because IOS is not even true multitasking.. I've replied on Android vs IOS on this thread

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/s...your-s7-s7-edge-5326269-27.html#post101328734

To me IOS is not even on the same league as Android, its lacking in customization and true multi-tasking in particular.. IOS just does what it does best.. Simplicity and thats about it!

You will not find much speed improvement from Lollipop compared to MM because they have all been updated to ART instead of Dalvik VM but on some instance, MM is faster. The most significant battery life improvement of MM over LP is Doze which will only be activated after you leave you phone untouch over some time.. On coming N, Google pushes Doze to the next level so that should further improve battery life.. N preview 3 is already released.. 2 more previews to go before they are released to AOSP.. So excited to try AOSP N on my N6P!

Thats what makes people feel sad lo. rolling out new firmware but never even spend time on older models to improve the performance. rather spend time developing and improving the firmware for their new phones

i know that the way IOS handles backend processes and multi tasking is different from android. but i actually prefer that instead as it helps save quite a bit of battery life.

For me, battery life MM and lollipop is the same. dont really find much of a difference to justify whether doze is useful or not. Android N is interesting, off screen = doze starts running. But well, i think its going to take 1 year for samsung to release android N to the note 5. by then maybe note 7 already out liao

Yup, that is what I hate most about Samsung.

Samsung do what they do best to maximize profit at the expense of US!

But what can I do? They built really good hardware...

I think Note 6 should still be on MM so I'd skip that because S7/e is pretty perfect except for some small quirks imo.. Meanwhile, use a google phone to play with the latest and greatest :)

Rather than say Samsung is better, i think should be other OEMs not putting up a fight except LG and HTC.

I know Huawei is coming up but i think they are still a notch behind event HTC and LG. I dun even wanna mention ASUS after the terrible Nexus 7 2012 i got from there and no good experience with their stuff (motherboard and GPU is a different story).

omg lol, thats really great leh. 7.5 SOT on WiFi and 4G? u using custom launcher or TW?

I'm using TW but I tweak here and there, always 4G and I've my pebble watch sync using BT also..

1) Dark/black themes and wallpaper
2) Automated location switch BT, Wifi on & off
3) Automated Off BT and Wifi after 1am, on them back at 7am
4) Automated profile like sound, vibrate switching depending on location
4) Disable a bunch of useless services and packages
5) Greenify
6) Opera mini beta

If I have root, it will be even better but cant root until warranty runs out

- Automate Turn off data when Wifi is connected, on data when wifi is disconnected
- Automate Turn location mode to battery saving unless MAP is running
- Automate Airplane mode from 1am to 7am

Other stuff like
- Auto landscape, portrait rotate depending on apps running
- Auto speakphone if my ears are not near phone
- Shake phone to on/off flashlight
