Thanks for that. So it’s paying more for the wider reading zone? I thought it’s just some face fit gimmick they selling.
I mean there are surely gimmicky products lenses in the market. But once it comes to progressives, depending on your tolerance level, some individuals can use really basic lenses and claim even owndays/lenskart also can. But there are others(majority) that feel that the better lenses makes a difference. I believe that are some users here that can attest to this…
So don’t worry, it really works!

Hi, Gangstkia, which would u recommend? Or is it all roughly the same ?
Hmm.. in general for a start, they all works well for the tier that I am recommending to you.
if you ask me… I will suggest you to be advised by your practitioner from the place you get your eye tested from. If you need any recommendations then I can help you with that!
hope this helps!

Please recommend a good brand for eyewear.

Main concern is lightweight and durable can tahan falling/dropping.

Went to try out mykita round shaped. Liked the design and weight but it is definitely not durable.
Can I introduce you to Lindberg(rim series) or maybe Markus T. These material can definitely take the impact and they are extremely lightweight. Extra bonus(aesthetically pleasing), but their price range is about 600-800

Caveat: I neither associate to Gangsterkia nor any optical shops. Yes, I bet it differs. I tried Japanese brand using their in-house progressive lens, Seiko, as it is not wide at the reading area, it is rather uncomfortable and image is distorted. But that is me. Like Gangsterkia mentioned, they are people can live with it but definitely not me. After 2 months I returned to those established brand until now. I don’t deny the cost of those established brands costs at least few times higher than those Japanese in-house lens.

Dear Gurus,

First I like to thank everyone in this community who contributed so much content that benefits everybody.

I am early 50 and have been wearing progressive (started with Crizal Comfort and could not handle the distortion) with Silhouette rimless frame for the last 8 years. I have copy my measurement from the prescription card taken in mid 2019:
1. sph:-3.00 (R/L), cyl: -0.025(R), -0.050(L), Axis:110 (R/L), add:02.00 (R/L) ( I don't know what all these mean).
2. Using Varilux X Design T7 Grey Airwear with above measurement.
3. I have noticed peeling at the edge of the lenses since Dec 2021.
4. I have never find this pair comfortable using in front of laptop as I have to keep tilting my head upwards.

I made another pair of single vision Crizal glasses (-150 degree with advise from another optician) also with Silhouette rimless frame that I am using daily in from of laptop, monitor and documents. Since Q3 last year, it is starting to feel taxing when looking at monitor and laptop the whole day, double images and challenging to look at handphone screen that is placed nearer than the laptop.

Today, I broke the single vision older Silhouette frame and thus it triggered me to read this thread. So I am looking to get 2 pairs of new glasses and to re-use my newer Silhouette frame. I am open to try Zeiss or Hoya or even remain with Criza, the standard cannot drop :)

Question:
1. I would appreciate your advise on where I can find a "skilful" optician to measure, advise and fit my glasses and of course somewhere in the west (if not maybe central)?
2. I read Zeiss personal has some means to take measurement. is this available at any shop or only at the Zeiss Vision Expert or Zeiss Vision Partner? What's the difference among these shops?
3. If I choose Zeiss Office Lenses, is choosing the 1m range has same outcome as a single vision lens type?
4. I read the Hoya website and it has many variant of Workstyle. How do I know which suit me and is there a way to test out?

My daily use cases are:
1. Sit in front of 2 laptops and monitor for 10-14 hours daily.
2. Sit in front of laptop and also look at presentation screen in meeting room about 1-2 hours weekly at most since covid started. 30% of time before covid. I switch between the 2 spectacles almost all the time.
3. Usage outside of home and office in malls etc.

Sorry for the lengthy post as I hope to be clearer and made it useful as reference for the community too. Thanks in advance.

You are welcome!
For convenience sake, you can consider visiting eyewear optics at Thomson Plaza as they carry both Brands.
if needed I can recommend you someone to look for too!

Hi experts,

Just stumbled across this thread while trying to do some research on what I should be looking for in my next pair of spectacles, appreciate all the info that has been shared throughout the thread so far!

I have been using a cheap pair of run of the mill specs I got from zenni optical for a couple of years but its in pretty poor condition with heavy scratches (to the point of about 15% vision obstruction). Hence, I hope to get some recommendation on some reputable good options (place to make, lens, etc.) I can explore and consider. I live in the central area (AMK/Bishan), and has seen user Gangsterkia recommend Eyewear Optic @ Thomson and was considering visiting this place soon.

Below is the prescription I had in 2019. Might have had slight change since then.
OD-Right / (SPH) -4.00 / (CYL)-3.50 / Axis 180
OS-Left / (SPH) -3.00 / (CYL)-3.00 / Axis 180
NV-ADD : None
Prescription Type: Single Vision

Use Cases:
- I'm currently 30.
- Daily work is full-time computer work for about 8-10 hours.
- Total screen time (Computer Monitor/Phones) per day is about 12-14 hours.
- I typically stick with 1 pair of glasses, have not found much need to switch pairs yet, but I always keep my old pair as spare.
- So far even though with quite a lot of screen time, I don't really feel any "eye fatigue" or strain.

Apologies for the lengthy post as well, I wanted to provide as much relevant information that may impact the recommendations that fellow experts could help with, thank you so much for reading!

Hi Gangsterkia, I am puzzle what contribute to the following, it is a single vision around 500+ for left eye and right is around 475; eyes power check at a same optical shop. With these readings, made 2 pairs of glasses within 12 months using Hoya 1.67 index.
Notice one pair is comfortable to wear even looking at computer for 8 hours and eyes do not feel strained or tired but the other pair bet to differ as after wearing 8 hours, eyes are tired. The one which is comfortable is using a sturdy frame and the other which develops fatigue is using a less sturdy frame. Both frames are from a similar brand. Appreciate your expert view again. Thank you so much.

Hi there,

I believe you might have a practice in mind to visit. Thus based on the points you mentioned,
i would suggest anti-fatigue lenses still, as they help to reduce future eye strains you might have. If you don't see the need to then you can stick with normal Single Vision Lenses.
You can consider brands e.g. Hoya,Zeiss,Essilor to work get. Based on your prescription if you choose Single Vision lenses, You might have to customized them as your astigmatism is above the Average -2.00 (stock). Thus i would recommend antifatigue as it's astigmatism range is higher and also might future proof your glasses in case there are eye strains too.

Hey man,
Same power, Same index and all same details.
I suspect its the frame type. A sturdy one will not shift too much and coupled with a high power lenses, sometimes a slight shift in the focal point would lead to slight prismatic effect which leads to your dbl vision, blurriness. Thus as comfortable as the less sturdy one is,, still there is a possibility that in your case you might find the vision being slightly affected if it moves. But for myself who have both types of frame too, luckily as i am just a -2.50 Both eye. Not much effect on me.

Thank you so much. I was told the same thing at Thomson Plaza Eyewear Optics. I also believe the wearer or the handler when putting on or removing the glasses that may contribute to the misalignment. Haa

went to eyes@work at millenia walk today

decided to get a matsu-something over a pair of linberg as i liked the design better
nonetheless also saved some money on frames, from 1k down to 700+
and got a zeiss digital lens with the reading add-on at the bottom of the glasses @ about 400++

very friendly optometrist and sales assistant.
very good experience
optometrist explained it in a daily-life-usage and practical manner

they asked how did i find out about them, i told them HWZ and they were like :s22:
hahaha, i guess they are not very aware of the good word about them in the online world
