Which is better progressive lens? Hoya or zeiss? Looking to compare this two.
Can't compare brands just like that. Gotta depend on your prescription, lifestyle, habits and needs. Then recommend lenses that suits you better.

E.g. can't compare mercedes and BMW straight to say which is best. Certain models from each brand could suit you well

Other than the card, is there anyway to tell if the essilor transition gen 8 sapphire lens is authentic or fake?

Trying to understand laohua. If i have laohua will my shortsightedness also increase? Or will cataract cause the increase in myopia? Cataract is just like laohua will form progressively right? Or will it only form suddenly when you are over 60yrs old.

Let me try to keep it short and simple 🤭

"Laohua" / Presbyopia is caused by the deterioration of the ciliary muscle. Usually with age/ too much near work. will not cause myopia increase/decrease.

A certain form of cataract (Nuclear cataract) can cause myopic shift though. It forms gradually with time, most people with this type of cataract might notice slight increase in myopia, though there are also instances of big increase in myopia too, easily managed by updating your prescription if your vision can be corrected to 6/12 or better. If 6/15 or worse, can consider cataract surgery.

This type of cataract possible to start forming in my 40s?

If lets say myopia increase in this case, would it be fine to still keep the old myopia power and just put the laohua prescription lower? Or myopia power must increase in order too see well fir near distance?

Yup possible to start at 40 Yo, but not common

Ok to keep old myopia power & correct presbyopia with a progressive lenses as long as you are comfortable with slightly blurry distance.

Is it accurate to test for cataract in an optical shop? Or must go let eye doctor to check?

Will the blurry distance also affect the near vision as well even after correcting for presbyopia?

Yup, any shop with an optometrist would be able to provide you with a cataract assessment, the optometrist would also refer you to an ophthalmologist if the cataract is too dense and require operation.

Blurry distance would not affect near, as presbyopia would also require testing to make sure you see clear at near

I’m new here. Been wearing owndays for past few years. Could not get used to their progressive so went mono vision for a couple years since I’m mainly in front of computer screen at work. Lately it’s gotten more uncomfortable and I decided to take the plunge and get a proper better quality progressive in the hope that i can finally have a comfortable pair of glasses.

my Myopia is -7.75, moderate lao Hua and astig. I spend long hours in front of the computer for work, so comfort at that distance most important to me although I also need to see far for driving and near for reading. Is Hoya Mystyle still the recommended progressives for comfort?

owing to my high degree I also have problems choosing frames cos it needs to be big enough for progressive yet not so big that the lens will appear thick. And have to 1.67 or 1.74 for sure.

if there are opt shops you can recommend in the west side that are not cut throat would appreciate it.

Good morning,
I see and understand the situation..
Yes hoya Mystyle series lenses are really good. The price is costlier especially for high index to be honest. But the comfort the adaption and comfort is usually very impressive..
Yes, choosing a smaller frame but still suitable to fit your face would be important.
In the west I would recommend Sunny optics at gombak.. unless you don’t mind travelling further then I have more recommendations.
