Which series of Kodak progressive lens are you referring to? e.g. which tier, precision plus is considered an above average lens even though it is the 4th tier for zeiss lens right now.

I can't think of any off hand atm,(not very familiar with Kodak progressives too.). Perhaps others might have a better idea or i can get back to you tmr here regarding infos on kodak!

Anyone seen the above promo for Shamir Blue Zero? Two pairs of lenses for $210.


I'm a bit confused by shamir blue control. Does it have an AR coat? Because blue conyrol is just the material and I'm unsure if it includes an AR.

How does shamir compare with crizal in terms of scratch resistance and hygrophobia and oleophobia? Anyone knows?

Shamir has their normal blue control and their blue zero. And yes both will have AR coat. Its a staple! blue control is just an extra coating over to give the anti-blue properties, However their blue zero is a embedded coating which thus the difference is
blue zero=absorbs blue light thus you wont see the yellowish hue
blue glacial shield=reflects blue light so you see more of the yellowish/warm hueish.

Currently, shamir coating is better than the standard crizal coating, but once crizal launch their new Sapphire coat(IMO its really good) then yes the sapphire coat is really impressive.

Currently out of those brands you mention, only tokai has the same type of lens coating with shamir blue zero which is the embedded blue light technology whereby you will not see the yellow hue.(there are other brands out there that has the same effect e.g. kwang meng blue visor or asahi(maybe)?

So if you as an individual do not like reflection on your lenses when taking photo(purple/bluish reflection) and do not want saturation when doing work that requires colour details differentiation then blue zero or the tokai lenses will work.

The other brands e.g. zeiss blueprotect, hoya blue control or essilor prevencia, nikon seemax blue all this will have the blue/purple reflection and yellowish hue but on the bright side, it helps to reduce more glare and makes things you look at more ''warm''. Thus its up to the practitioner to fill you in on the details and also to let you try out both of the lenses before recommending you base on your needs.

Mirror coat currently not many labs do, i believe Zeiss does it and also another brand called ICRX.

But with such high degree, it would mean the lenses would be quite thick(no.1) and also is it a curved frame? If the frame is curved coupled with a high degree, there would be some distortion/aberration when you look through the lenses. It will feel like it's clear but at the same time something might feel abit off.

can i ask your age? Might have to do with early presbyopia.
Also when you ask them to redo the lenses, was the pupillary distance checked? Normal oakley frames (excluding sunglasses) shouldnt really have so much of this problem from what i know but try the remake lens first then and see if the issue persists.

Your glasses is progressive too? Power on RE rechecked too?
When doing multifocal contact lenses, was dominant eye checked too? That might also affect the vision of the lenses.

Contact lenses and glasses prescription once it hits a certain limit e.g. 400 and above, some compensation has to be done to due to the vertex distance=distance from lenses to your eyes when wearing glasses as contact lenses is directly own your eyes. Below 400 is still fine unless they are going for a monovision kind of lenses then yes, CL power will be slightly different.

The blue zero apparently comes with an AR coating called "Blue AR." However, I can't find any info about this "blue AR" online. The sales lady didn't seem too sure either when I pressed her on it

I then asked whether I could combine the Blue Zero with the Glacier Plus UV coating, as stated on the SHAMIRSG website. She said it was not possible.

I then asked whether I could combine the Blue Zero with the Glacier Plus UV coating, as stated on the SHAMIRSG website. She said it was not possible.

FYI

Blue Zero is an embedded coating on top on the UV coating for the lenses. Thus nothing else can be combined with it not even transition. Thus if you want transition and blue light protection you must choose the other alternative which is glacier plus with it.

Blue AR is just a name of the multicoat. To see if the lens have a multicoat, just hold it over the light you should see greenish/purplish/bluish reflections. If its totally clear/white=no AR.
