Thanks for the info. wow, index difference price also different quite alot.

Yeah, some people who are particular about the edge thickness will go for the higher index. Looks nicer. After all we are wearing the spectacles for at least 2 years or so. Unless you are not so particular with the thickness of the lens, save the ~200 and go for a lower index. But as i said, glasses you are gonna wear it for at least 2 years or so. Always on your face... So might as well go for a higher index :) Just my personal opinion and what i advice to my patients/customers :)

- best visual quality
- lightweight
- within 300 bucks

- don't believe in blue light filter
- no need transition

Option 1: Zeiss lenses
-$245(RRP) for 1.6 index lenses
-with good care surely able to last longer
-w/o blue light filter
-w/o transition
-Perfect for your degree

Option 2: Crizal Sapphire lenses
-$180(RRP) for 1.6 index lenses
Sapphire coat is much better than their Uv forte coat in the past.

Option 3: Hoya Nulux/Hilux lenses
-$240(RRP) for 1.6 index lenses
Hoya HVLL(hi-vision long life) coating is very durable. (few forumners here testified to it).

Option 4:Nikon SEEcoat 1.6
-$240(RRP) for 1.6 index lenses
Nikon coating is known to be durable too.

Options listed in no particular order. There are other brands of lenses but these are just my recommendation.
If you want me to choose 1 out of these, i say go for Zeiss(personal opinion).

Hope this help and have a happy holiday!

Hi, I have 600 deg + astig basic short sightedness. Looking at 1.74 lens for the lightness and have been using hoya blue filter lens for my last 2 pairs. Looking to try zeiss this time round.

What are the options for mid to highest tier (with blue light filter)? I see they have quite a few different lens type/coatings

If there are other brands I should consider, let me know too. I am prioritising clarity, then durability and ease of maintaining

Hi Bro,

Hoya Blue Control & Zeiss BlueProtect are both using just a blue coating to reflect up to 30% HEV blue light.

For lenses with Blue Filter properties in-built into the lenses (Absorbs up to 94% HEV blue light), you might want to consider these lenses instead:
Tokai Lutina (Max 1.67 index)
Asahi Lite UV3G (Max 1.74 index)
Kodak UV UVBlue (Max 1.74 index)

Kodak UV UVBlue (Max 1.74 index)

Adding on to this post,

Basically why are there 2 options like these, Individuals who feels that the light emitted from the screens are too bright, can go with lenses that reflects blue light e.g. hoya(blue control)/zeiss(blue protect)/essilor(prevencia). It has a yellowish hue that gives the user a more ''warm'' feel and reduces the glare.

Compared to lenses e.g. shamir blue zero, tokai lutina, asahi lite or kodak uv uvblue, these lenses are designed to absorb(not reflect) ''higher'' percentage of blue light . Instead of reflecting which leads to the lenses not giving the ''yellowish hue'', certain individuals ''might'' feel the glare still to be present.

Pros/Cons(P/C)
Blue light reflect
More reflection when taking photo (C)
Reduced glare when looking at screen (P)
Has a warm yellowish hue (subjective to individual and job usage)

Blue light absorb

Less reflection when taking photo(P)
Glare slightly reduced(P/Subjective)
Slight, to no yellowish hue(brand)(P to some C to some)

So in conclusion, you have to choose/ be recommended something that fits your lifestyle. Factors such as Too glaring,Aesthetics,Hours spent in bright/dim environment does play a part in affecting the choice.

Hope you have a better insight after these sharing by us.

My recommendation is go for Zeiss lenses, blue protect. Clarity is subjective but based on reviews on feedback, usually zeiss lenses have no issues on my side. :)

Hi bro,

there's many aspects on how to choose a pair of suitable glasses (E.g. frame shape to suit your face /material of specs, lens type, etc..)

I'ld suggest dropping by any of your neighbourhood store to have a look, i believe the optician/optometrist would be able to better advice you :)

We can give you a rough gauge on what price to expect though, if you can provide us with your degree, type of work, problems you're facing now :)

I don’t know my degree but I have trouble looking at things from far, while driving etc.

Generally, I work 4 days from home; in front of a monitor for about 14 hours a day.

1/2 day,I work from a laptop.

Go down to a store convenient for you! This industry is very personalised and i feel we can only help so much here. If you trust us, why not visit any one of the users here and we can recommend accordingly - that way can rest assured :s13:

Dear all, i am looking to retain my current frameless spectacle (due to me liking the light weight titanium material). I am looking to do new lens only.

Any suggestions for a low cost shop to do just the lens? East, city, orchard areas preferably.

Thanks all in advance :)
