Anyone tried out the cheap reading glasses at Daiso?

Or do you prefer to buy proper but much more expensive reading glasses from established spectacles shops like OwnDays? I'm thinking whether to buy from OwnDays or get a cheap one at Daiso. Don't know whether cheap one will spoil my eyes or not.

One reason to buy proper specs is I want computer lens since I stare at screen a lot. But don't know whether this is unnecessary fanciful feature or not.

Owndays would be a better option in this case. But you might be able to purchase a cheaper pair from neighbourhood shop instead of owndays.

Lens optics of daiso lens are not as good as from optical shops. Blue light filter lenses does help, so you can consider opting for it.

I recently made a new pair of spectacles with Zeiss Digital Lens Smartlife and the intermediate zone (~30cm to 60cm) is very straining to the eyes whereas distance and reading are fine.

The optician told me that this is normal for digital lens and said I need to prioritise on my needs, etc distance or reading. Well, I can understand this, but it's kind of unacceptable to me that I can't even see my laptop or friends' faces clearly when I'm wearing the spectacles.

My optician suggested to me that I can remove the spectacles when I'm using my laptop, but isn't the digital lens supposed to reduce the strain on eyes when looking at electronic devices?

Anyway he has offered to change the lenses and I will like to check for my readings below, how much will the Zeiss Digital Lens Smartlife, Zeiss Office Lens (4m), Hoya Sync III Pro cost separately? Thanks in advance.

Hi, happy cny
Just a qns, even if you tilt your chin higher, the intermediate zone is still not comfortable?
Also do you mind telling me your current age range e.g 30-35 35-40 40-45?

For your prescription, generally a 1.5 index lens is more than enough unless you use a half frame or rimless.

All based on rrp
Sync 3 pro w/o bluecontrol:390
Smart life digital w/blueprotect:350
Office w/blueprotect:350

Happy CNY to you too, GANGSTERKIA and very much appreciated your prompt response.

Yes, intermediate zone is visibly less straining when I tilt my chin or adjust the specs upwards.

I'm 40-45.

Oh, I almost forgot to ask. Does your glasses come with adjustable nosepads or those Inbuilt kind? And from the frame top to bottom, approximately what is the height?

Alright, my general opinion would be firstly, in your optician defence, it is possible as this is your first time wearing multi focal lenses thus he/she started you off with digital lenses so you would feel more comfortable and easier to get adapted to. Based on your age group, usually your addition power should be around +1.25—+1.50 which is not exactly wrong too.

However, then possibly you prefer a higher power which is why you have to raise your glasses higher to view through it.

Options you can consider
1) go back and get the frame adjusted to sit higher
2)consider changing to progressives with higher addition power(if within warranty, certain places(your shop) might be able to let you do a top up so you can pay abit more to switch to their Zeiss progressives).
3)having an extra pair of office lens for desk work.

My model is Yellows Plus Clark. With adjustable nose pads and height is ~50mm.

I am going for the Zeiss Office lens option as I use the laptop more than 8 hours a day. Hopefully this round will turn out okay because this is already my 2nd remake. First round was insufficient addition power (0.75 compared to 1.25) and I couldn't even read the wordings clearly on my HP. I went back to the shop the next day and they immediately offered to change the lens with increased addition power.

As of now, I have asked the optician repeatedly if I need to change to progressive lens and he said no. And I also repeatedly asked if there is a need to redo the eyes examination and he too said no need. Just change to Zeiss Office lens should suffice.

Actually I have another pair of spectacles (similar frame size) with Hoya Sync III Pro made from another shop about 2 years ago and it works fine for me. Same addition power and comfortable viewing in all distances.

So not sure if its the optician's skill, brands' issue or my problem, haha.

I have been following your posts in this thread for close to 2 years now. Can you PM me your shop if possible. I will like to try your service next time. A good and patient optometrist is hard to come by. Thanks! :)

Ok that seems like a good alternative, 0.75 for that age range is really too Low unfortunately.

In general, Hoya lenses has good reading vision whereas Zeiss is for their distance. But either way a digital lens is a good lens design still. Is your old Hoya lens fitted frame a smaller size frame as compared to YP Clark?

Yes, similar shape and size. Only difference is it's a half rim instead of full rim.

I would say look towards charmant blue label if it’s still in production or else standard charmant ones which cost about 200 plus.

I'm looking for titanium frames as well.

Gangster, ask you ah, what other lens brands are there that are more bang for buck. Is pentax lens any good? I see the price is much cheaper than other more popular ones

They aren’t exactly not popular or popular. But they are just there haha. Not sure if I put it right. They are still going strong, if you want to, you can head to eyewear optics Thomson. They have quite a wide range of oakleys.
