frankly i am trying to get a progressive specs.using a seiko Lens now.
was thinking if hoya, shamir, zeiss or essilor are my next destination.
there are too many for me to choose.
Which lens have a good multi-coat?I ever use a hoya single vision lens that last 7 years
i am also looking for a good quality silver titanium frame.
Hi!
Haha, as you mentioned, it last for 7 years. Hoya themselves also has won the best lens coating.. if you feel confident with how they served you before, you can still consider going back to them. Or else the next option , I would recommend You to listen to your practitioner as they have the next best advice for you.

Went to try out mykita round shaped. Liked the design and weight but it is definitely not durable.
A post from a while ago but I thought worth responding to.

I can confirm that the Mykita frames look great and are very light but are expensive and definitely not durable. Mine simply broke from normal use after just over 3 years. Mykita's customer service is zero and their frames cannot be repaired. Avoid.....

@GANGSTERKIA what are the different grades of Varilux X Series lenses and RRP of the same for 1.60 index clear lenses (not transitions)?
The 3 grades are
Entry-x design 1.6 rrp 980
Mid-x track 1.6 rrp 1100
Premium-xclusive 1.6 rrp 1500

x track offers wider intermediate zone(computer) and at the same time takes into account your near vision behaviour I.e how you read, eye movement or head moving motion to read.
Xclusive has what x track offers and takes into account some dynamic movement too but I can’t rmb in detail about it.

40 but my prescription has been quite stable.
Hi, thanks for sharing.
At 40 years young, I suggest going for their digital lenses as your reading/presbyopia/lao hua should have set in.
1.74 would cost 720(rrp)
This would also allow you to transit easier over to progressive lenses in future(3-4)years at least down the road. So you won’t feel as much as those swaying, giddiness that some individuals might feel at the start.

Thank you very much for this info.

The price difference between xtrack and xclusive is very significant. I wonder what dynamic movements xclusive takes into account that xtrack does not. I just tried to Google but found almost no info on the functional differences between the 3 grades. Lots of marketing motherhood on the x series generally but almost no info on the differences between the grades.

Often, and not just with regards to lenses, marginal functional improvements come at a disproportionately higher cost the higher up the functionality ladder one climbs.

Apologies for responding to my own post.

@GANGSTERKIA - I just found this on the Internet (from a 2021 Product Catalogue).

Varilux X track 2

Essential

  • Pupillary distances (PDs)
  • Fitting heights
  • Near Vision Behaviour
  • Vertex distance
  • Pantoscopic angle (tilt)
  • Wrap angle (faceform)
Optional
  • Eyecode personalisation data
    • Headcape angle
    • ERC distances (ERCd)
    • ERCPOs
    • ERC fitting heights
Varilux Xclusive 4D

Essential

  • Pupillary distances (PDs)
  • Fitting heights
  • Near Vision Behaviour
  • Vertex distance
  • Pantoscopic angle (tilt}
  • Wrap angle (faceform)
  • Eyecode personalisation data
    • Headcape angle
    • ERC distances (ERCd)
    • ERCPOs
    • ERC fitting heights
    • Dominant eye
Optional
  • Wearer initials:
    • Up to 4 characters can be micro-engraved on the lens

Based on the above, the only difference appears to be "Dominant eye" Eyecode personalisation. Do you know what this means?

I believe 4D not available in spore..
But thanks for reminding me, they test to see which is your dominant eye e.g. dominant eye is used to focus on far and the other for near. Thus they will customise to ensure they will be a balance in terms of vision for both far and near on both eyes.

Thanks for clarifying what "dominant eye" means.

Seems Xclusive 4D is the only Xclusive offered by Essilor globally so I guess if a store is selling Xclusive, it must be Xclusive 4D?

Here is the link (Essilor 2021 Range Guide). See page 79.

I can’t confirm that. Also not all practice in Singapore can prescribe Xclusive as a special standing machine is needed to get the measurements. You should be able to find the practices through the Essilor store locator..

Okay, will check the store locator and look for the special standing machine. Thanks again.

It’s called visual office/2.. so incase the website states it but we accidentally overlook..
Many thanks.

Can the other Eyecode data which is stated as optional for Xtrack 2 be provided without this machine or are the practitioners without this machine not doing these optional tests for Xtrack 2?

For X track, only an iPad with the Essilor measuring App is needed.
The app will measure and produce those parameters required.

W Optics has the equipment (Visioffice 2) to dispense the Varilux Xclusive 4D lenses. They told me that their downtown outlets (the optician mentioned Wheelock Place, Greatworld City and Suntec City) have this equipment but their heartland outlets may not.

Ah I see, thanks for the information. So will you be getting that lens design?

Unfortunately for my pocket, yes. Seems very interesting and sophisticated tech. My only concern is the coating. My last experience with varilux coating lasted about 3 years before starting to peel. Unusable before the end of the 4th year. Hoping the coating can last at least 5 years.

Essilor have a promo-second lens at 50% which makes the lens a little less expensive if one buys the second lens.

Hi, I would like to make a pair of specs for my parents (>60 years old) but I realised that progressive lens itself is expensive, above 1k?
Could anyone please recommend optical shops that sell good quality progressive lens that is less 1k? Owndays, zoff and Lenskart are out.
