Hi,

Need to ask a question. My eyesight is about 900+- each side. So my optician recommended me to go for Zeiss 1.74 lens. Currently I am on Hoya 1.64 if I remember correctly.

Anyway I chose the frame Lindberg Thintanium but I was informed that the lens company isnt able to produce my lens big enough to fit into the Lindberg frame that I have selected. I am not really sure what I was hearing since this Thintanium is a prescription glasses and not a sunglasses so I am unsure why the lens wont be able to fit into this frame. If not why Lindberg produces such a frame?

So asking experts here, is there really such a thing? In the end, I can only choose Lindberg NOW.

Thank you.

Good morning,
For certain lenses, at higher prescription, the lens blank/ordered only comes at a certain size. One Reason being to reduce the thickness of the finished product, thus the lens comes only in a certain size e.g. 65mm/70mm. If you choose a bigger/wider frame, then it would not be able to fit. Thus you might have to sacrifice on aesthetics and choose a 1.67 lens instead if you want to use the frame etc..

Hi Gangsterkia,

Appreciate your time to reply to me.

Wanted to ask a few questions. You mentioned that I have to choose a 1.67 lens instead? So by choosing a 1.74 index lens, the lens size is not big enough to fit onto my chosen frame? Haha I always been using 1.67 index lens for all my past glasses. Was being asked to change to 1.74 so as to reduce the thickness but who knows that I cant get my chosen frame in the end... oh well.

Is this applicable to Zeiss only or will it apply to Hoya?

Thanks!!

Hi Gangsterkia,

TIA have been reading your helpful replies. I'm looking for a new pair of single vision glasses, my prescription is about 300+ on both sides, with astig of about 75-100 from my last eye check few months back. I'm in my early 30s.

I work facing my laptop daily for long hours, so I've been using Crizal Sapphire + Prevencia 1.60 lenses (if i recall correctly) for the past few years. I went a few optical shops in malls (like Capital Optical, Bolon, Paris Miki etc.) and was told that these days Essilor only adds Prevencia coating for RX lenses, whereas as my degree isn't very high, I can just stick to stock lenses but wouldn't be able to add Prevencia coating. So the shops recommended Crizal BlueUV - they mentioned that its a "newer" lens that already includes some blue light blocking so don't need to further add Prevencia coating.

Given the prices quoted, I'm now weighing between Crizal vs Zeiss lenses and whether to get Transitions/Photochromic ones. I was told photochromic lenses also come with blue light blocking technologies. Will I need anti-fatigue lenses like Essilor Eyezen/Zeiss SmartLife? Understand that these costs more too.

Crizal BlueUV 1.60 - $220
Crizal Transitions Gen8 1.60 - $300

Zeiss BlueProtect UV 1.60 - $215
Zeiss PhotoFusion + BlueProtect UV 1.60 - $305 (they mentioned there is a newer PhotoFusion X but is more expensive)

The budget that I'm working with is preferably max $300 for my lenses. For frames I don't have much ask and typically use Luxottica brands, preferably max $200.

Given your extensive experience, please do feel free to throw in any comments/advise you have. If you can PM me suggested shops to visit will be great too. Appreciate your help!

It applies to most labs in Singapore.
But certain brands have their each individual customised lenses thus some might be able to do as compared to the other brands. Hoya nulux v+ 1.74 might be possible.

Hi I would strongly suggest Zeiss photofusion with blueprotect. Photofusion itself does help to cut blue light but what is more impt is actually cutting the bright glare emitted from the screen.
This is something that is widely spread as a gimmick whereby the practitioners would use a pen and shine through the lenses to show it “cuts more” blue light. The truth is that that is more of a UV pentorch, as blue light doesn’t cause your photochromic lens to activate, more like UV light which does it.
the yellow hue from the blue protect/full control or even prevencia is the one that does the job of reducing glare.
And yes I would recommend Zeiss digital lenses.
You could make an appt at Jamco katong, eyewear optics@thomson or even first eyewear at East Coast road.

edit: if blue light activates your photochromic lenses, then your photochromic lenses will be dark all day as there is blue light everywhere, mobile, computer etc…

Anyone knows where could I get Zeiss prescription lenses at the lowest price? I am likely to bring my own frame, if that is a consideration.

Hi there!
Hoya as of now has a promotion islandwide for their digital lenses-sync3.
they have a free upgrade from sync 3 to sync 3 pro which allows for more customisation to be done on the lenses. The lenses retail at about 290 for a basic 1.5 index. Depending on your power, then it might have to go towards a higher index lens.
Or else you can still choose a single vision lens-add on blue light filter then can work with it too.. though I would recommend antifatigue which could reduce eye muscle strain.
Which optical shops carry hoya? Tried to do a search but can’t find much info..
