Which optical shops carry hoya? Tried to do a search but can’t find much info..
Hey there, actually most shop Sells Hoya lenses. Just that whether do they prefer selling hoya or other other Brands.
you can consider practices like
1)eyewear optics thomson
2)jamco @katong shopping center
3)first eyewear eye center@east coast.
But do make an appt before dropping by.

Hi, would like to check on where should I make a new pair of specs with budget of around 350-400?

Reason being that my company insurance does cover vision and I’m able to claim up to 250usd per year for specs. So just thought of changing it yearly.

Hi!
I believe many places right now can fit your budget of 350-400.. be it neighbourhood or even those shopping mall.
Unless you looking for any particular shop recommendations if not most will be fine.

Hi Gangsterkia,

Would like to ask some recommendations for about 300-400ish. Since im going on vacation soon and my prescriptions are due for a change, want to check if prescription sunglasses are worth it? If not Im thinking of making a branded lens (essilor/hoya?) prescription with sunglass clip on. Probably eye power around 275 / 300 with astig. Have not measured eye power for quite long already.

Good morning!
If you mind that your glasses will look dark(Cnt see the eyes) when taking photos outdoor, then I suggest doing customised clip on.
otherwise you can just do an all in one(photochromatic) lenses if you are ok with it.
Based on your prescription, I believe both options are fine.. so have to depend on your overall level of comfort based on the ease of wear..

Got any in Punggol to recommend? For my budget, can’t get titanium frame right?

Hi, do you all use ultrasonic cleaner?
I don’t because I read that prolong use “might” affect the coatings on the lens….not an expert in the lens field but do make some sense to me. If once in a while do it when I visit the shop is ok, for daily cleaning, I use the disposal cleaning wipes or a proper microfibre cloth.. if the cloth deteriorate, then just buy off from any shop…

mild myopia here (left -1.5, right -0.75) and starting to have presbyopia (can't see phone clearly when wear glasses)

instead of progressive lens, is it ok to get monovision lens, say left len for presbyopia and right len for myopia?

Hi, could you share your age with us here if possible? Or if not can pm.
Depending on your age, it might be possible. If it’s between 36-40, you can consider dropping by eye prescription by -0.25 lesser and it might work. If you do monovision, you might not be too used to it and get headache.
Though my first choice would be to fit an antifatigue/digital lens(not progressive)

Why are some optical shops able to make and fit the prescriptive lens within a few hours (that is collect same day) but others require a week?

Hi,
If the prescription is Low and within the range of stock that some shops might keep in standby then yes they can do within a few hours.
However some shops do not keep ready stock lenses thus have to order and take 1-2 days.
However in the case the lenses prescription is too high e.g. astigmatism, then the lenses have to be customised(RX) thus it would take longer to produce the lenses. Lenses like progressive/multi focal/bifocal falls into this category,

Thanks. I may then be able to get and collect a prescription pair of glasses in JB during a day trip...

Hi,
It really depends. E.g. a -5.00 degree individual, naturally 1.67 is more than enough to cater for thickness. 1.74 might be too overkill.
also 1.67 has a better optical Abbe value than 1.74. Thus we don’t always have to strive and go for the thinnest. It depends on your prescription and aesthetic preference.
