Can I ask for advice whether are there different transition lenses brands?

Just saw EYE doctor today for my son and soon going to start atropine eyedrops for myopia (after confirmation checks and progress post drops)

Don't need them now cos need time for the above. But according to her, will need bifocal lenses with transitions to reduce outdoor glare.

Are there different brands locally?

Always just used regular lenses so no experience.

Hi!
Your son should actually get progressives instead bifocal. As bifocal now doesn’t come with photochromatic lenses.
Thus there are different Brand’s like Zeiss photofusion, Essilor transitions or even Hoya sensity.

Thanks bro for the help.
U got any recommendation for the 3 brands in this aspect?
Would a shop offer options for all 3?

You are welcome!
Generally for Zeiss it would be myokids(progressive kids myopiacontrol lenses with photofusion)
Essilor would be myopilux plus with transition or maybe a basic progressive with transition coat.
For Hoya, it would be the amplitude plus with sensity.
The additional power prescription should be written by the doctor or if tested by the practitioner. Because different concentration of atropine level e.g. 0.01, 0.05,0.12,0.5,0.1 affects your child accommodation different.
Accommodation is a process of how your eye muscles helps to adjust to help you read at close/far. Thus higher concentration of atropine would “paralyse”(not in a bad way) your eye muscles such that it would not work the usual way. Thus the kid would have problems reading at near. So most kids I see usually use a +1.50/+2.00 to to read better and that is why a progressive lens is recommended for them.
There is more in-depth explanation to this but I will leave it to your doctor/practitioner elaborate as I don’t wish to bore you over here.
there are many practices that Carries such Brands..so it’s up to you to see which would you be more comfortable with
Usually I would recommend
Jamco optical@katong shopping ctr
First eyewear@upper East Coast road
Eyewear optics thomson@thomson plaza.
Appts need to be made before going down thus if needed, I can pm you who to look for too!
Hope this helps!

Thanks I understand how atropine works.

Is there any difference in speeds with how fast the photochromatic lens activate?

Yes,
My understanding now is that Hoya sensity 2 series activates faster and indoors fades to clear faster(I might be wrong).
To be honest, the activation time really is quite negligible.. so either Brands will be fine.

Long time no back to this thread...

Family members are looking to replace their SV prescription glasses, but are hesitant to pay up for Zeiss Smartlife lenses.

Wonder if there are other more reasonably-priced digital lenses? The Hoya Sync III (with free upgrade to Pro) seems to tick the checkbox. Wonder if there's any user feedback?

Hi, first time reading this thread. Have a question on lens replacement for my family member. He has this frame which he used for a decade plus and still looks and feels so good that he refused to change others. Of course, the lens had been replaced a couple of times, used to change to Essilor Crizal, but recent years, thought of lowering cost since his degree is only less than 300, so went for generic brands. That's when we started to face issues, like his lens will chip off once accidentally drop, which we don't recall last time being so fragile. Had already changed at 2 different optical shops and same experience.

When we took the frame to ask around some shops, we also learned that this type of frame is different from other types, even encountered a chain shop who declined and said they are not equip to do such design!

The frame is Götti Switzerland 100% Titanium Tobi G-Flex which has the frame cutting into/around the lens, much like how a rimless frame is structured, but this is with Titanium cutting in and holding the lens. There is a technical term which I can't recall, but it's similar yet still different from normal rimless according to the shops we asked.

Some suggestions from them include changing to a sport lens which is harder or using a higher hi-index as according to them, the higher hi-index lens are actually more durable? Is this true? Would like to hear some views here from people with knowledge or experience with such frame. If we use the suggestions, roughly how much will the lens cost?

Its a comfortable pair of digital/antifatigue lens. I am 31 and using the +0.57 extra boost. Working fine for me👍

Hi, I used to work with Gotti Swiss brand frames.
you might be referring to the Rimlon/nylon kind of frames. Thus the titanium(correct me if I am wrong) wraps around the Center of the lens, there is a grooving between the lenses.
Usually for such lenses we opt for higher index or at least 1.53(trivex) material, 1.59(polycarbonate), 1.6, 1.67. Polycarbonate are pretty strong but is easier to get scratched and poorer optical clarity. If the prescription is Low, I would recommend 1.53 as the material is tough and it has good clarity. Anything higher(prescription) then I would suggest 1.6 or 1.67(if needed).
Also generic lenses… you pay for what you get, poorer quality , optically and material. So it’s still better to invest in a better pair of lenses. Let us know if you have more qns.
Cheers!

What is the estimated price of a Lindberg Baffalo Horn frame? Which optical shops carry this series? I went to one or two optical shops and they only have the normal Lindberg collection..

Hi, 2.4-2.6k.
You can look towards
Eyewear optics in Thomson Plaza
Jamco optical in katong shopping center

Though their website will also state the practices in Singapore that Carry the buffalo horn series.

Any recommendations for children's frames?

Nephew was complaining his glasses keep slipping down especially during physical activities. He does use those ear hooks but apparently not working that well. FYI, he's only 8 yrs old

Yes, groove, think that's the word we heard at one of the shops.

His prescription is between 250-300 with very slight astigmatism. Previously, was using Crizal 1.6 hi-index (if not wrong) before trying generic 1.56 (maybe this was the main problem, sld hv at least go for 1.6?)

Went to Google 1.53(trivex) & 1.59(polycarbonate), I presume polycarbonate is what the shops referred as sport lens?

What are the prices like for these three - trivex, polycarbonate and 1.6 hi-index?

Oh man, 1.56 100% cnt take nylon/rimlon frame. It’s too brittle.. in general, we won’t recommend it to the consumers unless consumers die die want cheap and we always fore warn before hand..

1.6 is the cheapest from about 120 onwards(generic brands), trivex(Hoya jap brand) and polycarbonate(Essilor) will be about 200..
