looking for 1 progressive and 1 office lens for task based work. Any good offers, do let me know.
@Optometrist do you have recommendation for office lens? Is shamir duo good?
650 for your prescription is a pretty decent price. RRP is $700 for 1.74 Zeiss Single Vision Superb Asiana.Hi how is Carl zeiss lens? Does it scratch easily. I was quoted $650 for myopia 1000 deg, and 500 astig. High index 1.74. Is it considered ripped off? Thank you.
Just to chime in on the Shamir Duo.. It's essentially a pair of bifocal without any lines. It only has the distance and reading zones, thus it wouldn't be very helpful for your computer screens where we consider it as the intermediate zone.@Optometrist do you have recommendation for office lens? If having myopia, old sighted, astigmatism, will $1500 be enough?650 for your prescription is a pretty decent price. RRP is $700 for 1.74 Zeiss Single Vision Superb Asiana.
If your main concern is the coating, Can consider Hoya Nulux Classic 1.74 HVLL ($580) instead. Hoya is well known for their long lasting coating

Including frame.
What brand is branded?Yes & No.
If you want branded Progressive lenses then not enough.
If you want Japanese progressive lenses of similar quality, then Yes, (enough to even get progressive design of Zeiss ID2 standard + frame)
PMedWhat brand is branded?
What brand is japanese?
PMedHi, I'm looking for recommendations for Japanese progressive lens. I have worn progressives before but these were local made and I didn't perservere with them. Stopped wearing them after a year, but pushing up my specs to look closely at my phone is causing me vision problems.
Ophthalmologist suggested I make Japanese (or German) progressives because the comfort level is significantly better. Budget is about 1k+
TIA!
Thanks Twentytwenty2020. Good to hear real experience.Just to chime in on the Shamir Duo.. It's essentially a pair of bifocal without any lines. It only has the distance and reading zones, thus it wouldn't be very helpful for your computer screens where we consider it as the intermediate zone.
While it can technically be configured to mimic an office lens, it lacks the smooth progression from your screen to something up close. Thus I wouldn't recommend it in this instance.
Optometrist can pm me the price and location where to get Asahi lite? Can't really go wrong with office lenses from the big boys. I personally prefer to go with Asahi Lite, to maximize comfort for my clients with customization.
do you have a recommended shop?Last yr, after I have done with my cataract surgery, I went to few optometrists and willingly pay them around $30 for an eye check-up in order to test their skill and experience their optical machine. Some of the shop I visit included those recommended in this forum.
My conclusion is that if you want to have best vision for your eye, the follow conditions is needed.
Number 1:
You need best lenses.
For clarity, I rank Zeiss and Nikon in first tier. Hoya and Varilux in second tier.
Number 2:
You need a skilful optometrist who can afford to give you hours to do eye test, esp for complicated cases.
Otherwise, your skilful optometrist might choose to cut short the time for some reasons and you also don’t know you are not getting the best unless you go to seek another optometrist.
Number 3:
You need optical shop that are willing to spent ton of money to be fully equip to make the most customized lenses.
Because the top tier model of each lenses brand has become fully customized. These lenses required additional instruments to take more parameters into making the lenses. Some of these additional instruments can be very expensive which I observe most shops are not willing to procure.
Then you know what they do? They go use ruler to take your measurement. One shop did that to me when I ask for Hoya Mystyle V+ progressive lenses. Actually, if he doesn’t have the instrument needed, he should be honest to tell customer.
Number 4:
Our ability to communicate well with optometrist.

Our ability to communicate well with optometrist.
Point 3 quite debatable. Instruments are necessary if experience and skills are lacking.
Our customers usually stick with us as the level of comfort from Progressive lenses fitted at our place are usually hard to replicate at other shops (Even with instruments) . Every pair that we prescribe are heavily customized to face shape, frame shape/design, prescription & existing pair of lenses.
Hi all! I'm a practicing optometrist in SG and would be happy to contribute my knowledge, share my perspectives and help with any questions that anyone may have. Hope that I can bring some value here. Cheers!
