thinking of buying my new spectacles online, but dunno what's my current prescription...

i need wider frames too, cos previous ones not wide enough, always make an impression on my temples...

i know shop always advertise free eye test with purchase, but is there any place where i can just go measure how many degrees incl astig for each eye? is there some way to find out a suitable frame size too? (my old specs all too narrow, if don't factor in spring hinges, so no point using them as reference :()

thanks in advance for any advice offered :)

For me..i just buy the frame alone online.
and do the presciption lenses locally.

For frame size, all you need to do is to see ur current spec size.

search-by-size.jpg

This is how they measured the frame size.
usually at the side of the frames, the centre of bridge width or underneath of the lens width.

Different brands place their frame size differently.
The figures r something like 52•18•140.

52 is your lens width.
18 is your bridge width.
and
140 is ur side frame length.

Just combined your lens & bridge width. (52x2+18)
and measure your face width.
see whether is wider than your face.

This is how i choose my frames online...

:o :) :o

You can get spectacles online but however always get your prescriptions from a registered optometrist. Make sure you guys get your eyes checked yearly to be clear from any eye diseases and symptoms that maybe masked by wearing glasses. Some blurring of vision maybe more insidious than just a normal refractive error (eye power).

Shops that give free eye tests are not full eye examinations. Always ask your optometrist about a full eye test to be done yearly. It usually takes 30-45mins for a full eye tests. This makes sure that you have no potential blinding conditions masked by wearing spectacles.

Normally the eye tests you get a spectacle shops are just checking of your eye power. This is not legal. All optometrist have to conduct full eye tests for any NEW patients who turn up at their practice. They have to also have patients back usually every year for another full eye check. Depending on your risk factors your regular eye check can range from as soon as 6 monthly to every 3 years.

Heed my advise people. Full eye checks are important in prevention of vision loss.

Your prescription will include your measurements of the distance between your eyes. Recommendations of frame will Only be done on the spot, because different frames fit differently. There is no hard and fast rule to frame sizes. You must feel good n confident about yourself and most importantly see well when wearing glasses. So purchasing glasses online has it's disadvantages.

Price wise depends on optometrists. Full eye check would include history taking, power checking, eye health screening, posterior fundus(retina) check, eye pressure. Additional test when indicated are, visual function testing like visual field mapping, binocular vision analysis, etc.
