Hi all, I'm relocating overseas soon and need a new pair of specs(use my current pair as backup). Was wondering what brand I could get for about $200-$250. I want those nondescript, full metal frames(or frameless also can), that are pretty hardy.
maybe something like this:

My last two spectacles were bought at Thomson Plaza, both were by this brand "Police" and are pretty hardy (at least the first one was), the second one, the paint flaked off from the frame...sigh.

Wondering what brands I could get for that price range. I dont need fancy lenses, just the normal kind will do. Also, which shops would give me a good deal?

Thanks in advance!

which shop you went?

Any better ones? or what different coating do you know?

There is plenty out in the market. TBH I think that it's really hard to determine which coating is better.

Crizal - Essilor
Lotutec - Carl Zeiss
SFT - Hoya
Neva - BBGR
Clean n Clear coat - Kodak

Of course there are more but some of the coating names I don't really know. But generally, these coating comes with similar feature and it's really up to the consumer to decide which coating is better. F

Super good deal, high chance that either frame is off 2nd quality or lenses are of lower range.

But its still a good deal if its of 2nd quality?
Lenses are 1.67
If i get the 1.7 lens, it will cost about $320 hi index crizal lens.

That being said, which brand of lens is better?
Crizal's marketing seems to be very well done.

Wow thats really cheap. WAY below RRP. IMO better lenses are lens that have the special coating that normal lenses do not have.

Appreciated, tks!

The shop has their pricing and was told CZ coating was the 'best one' compared to the rest.

Afterall, i think just be happy with purchase.. the differences maybe so insignificant that you wont realise.

Just to check, is it cheaper to get a frame in JB instead of Singapore? Is there a risk of getting an imitation? I'm looking at those Japanese band frames. Tia!!

I was advised by one of the shops that hoya will be better
Since there are so many different standard within each brand of lens.
Can anybody give a breakdown by the top 5 brands (Esillor, seiko, zeiss, crizal, hoya?) on a decent lens standard within the brand?

What do you mean by different standard within each brand of lens? If you are getting Hoya, get their SFT coated lens. Heard its pretty good.

Any comments on this?

Hmm. Most likely frames from malaysia would be cheaper. I know Ic! Berlin is cheaper there then in Singapore. Get from reputable shops in malaysia if you're afraid of getting counterfeit. Do some research!
