yes...my index is 500 500..that makes every lens i made very ex...

Btw, is Nikkon lens good?

and where can i get the cheapest 1.74 Lens? any shops to recommend?

Nikon lenses are considered as premium range. Of coz they are good.

Zeiss 1.74 = $560
Crizal 1.74 = $400
Nikon 1.74 = $480

I'd recommend Nikon if you go for 1.74.
It just feels more worthwhile comapred to crizal or hoya for 1.74

For prescription such as yours R -5.00, L -5.00
Best not to make sunglass lenses. coz..
1) Very expensive
2) If ur prescription changes, so must the lenses
3) Distortion levels are higher compared to low prescription.

So dont spend money to suffer, get some contact lenses or go for lasik. Spend to enjoy!

I thought if the mounting is screw and nut, there is a rubber layer to prevent the lens from cracking? Anyhow, I think you are right, if excessive power is used to screw the nut, there is a risk of the lens being crack as well. I would prefer my spectacle fitting is washer because of the neat look, unfortunately the frame that I like uses screw and nut.

Ya, some uses screw and nuts. Some are screws and they are designed to screw inside the frame grove where the screw threads are.(hope u understand my bad england)

Don't let the screw design hinder you too much. most important is the frame quality.

hi guys, its my first time making a spectacles. would only wear them doing certain things ( etc, in lecture hall or driving)

so kinda blur about all the lens types. one shop quoted me $90 for lens that are more durable with multi-coating/prevention against uv ray

is it reasonably priced? or are those features redundant?

$90 retail price will give u basic mc lens. Very likely made in china/korea entry lenses. If u are looking for cheap lenses, they are good.

If u are looking for decent lenses, at least look for a hoya 1.5 @
$100

$10 difference with coating at so much better..

anybody knows where in singapore i can find tom ford eyewear for prescription purposes?

For very wide ranges, go for megastores like:

Great world city, Specialist Eye Care
Vivocity, Intergrated Eye Care
Suntec City, Yes Eyewear

their prices might be a little higher for the rental but their range is superb. u can take ur time slowly choose.

Should be crizal basic. Imo, get hoya 1.67 or nikon 1.74 if u really need 1.74.

Coating quality quite different.

whats the difference between basic and the one u quote at 400?

1.67 and 1.74 the difference is great?

hoya basic 1.74 how much? nikkon over my budget...how about seiko?

All major branded lenses have at least 1 year warrenty against any manufacturing defects like warp, coating peel, colouring peel.

But not coating peel due to scratches or scratches of any sort.
How about very fine tiny dots alot of dots appear on lens? Where can i do the exchange? thanks:)

To answer ur question on 1.74 vs 1.67 difference.. i need :
1) ur prescription
2) ur pupil distance
3) ur frame shape
4) ur lens size

eg. if ur prescription is -3.00 with PD 66 using harry portter frame with a lens size of 45mm.

both 1.67 and 1.74 cannot see any difference.

But if u are using something like a Porsche Design metal frame, have prescription of -7.00 and Pd 60.. that will be very very big difference on thickness for 1.67 vs 1.74

jonlee's new spec looks exactly like ic!berlin except that the end temple is hooked instead of straight & the side temple is not as curved. How is the hinge formed? Is it the same mechanism as icberlin?
oakley's titanium frames still weigh rather heavy i think maybe due to the thicker structure. Even though you can say tat its v durable against breakage, but how many of you will wear a frame until it breaks? Most imt aspect is the comfort on top of looking nice & proper.

I m keen to know abt the hinge mechanism too?
Totally screwless?
And made in which country?

its a baisc crizal advance 1.5 bought in last yr june.. now alot small tiny fine dots... is it normal?

u try using mild hand soap, dilute in water with ur hands..

use the foam to gently rub the lens, tap dry it with tissue paper and clean it with micro fibre cloth(proper specs cloth).

If still have, go ask ur shop for remedy.

dear xiaokaka,

will using hand soap to wash lens daily cause the coatings to deteriorate? Is it actually safe? i've been using dettol handsoap to wash btw. Or will it be sufficient to just rinse our lens with clear water under the tap?

the dots are due to the lens manufacturing process, many lens are liketat nowadays, could be due to the coating process. Anyway, as long as you don care & bother abt these dots, they wont bother you either. Unless they start to get into the way of your vision, otherwise just accept them as part of your life :s13:

yes, brother, totally screwless.

Screwless technology is THE in trend now & ultimate wearing comfort due to lesser constraint, sought after by esp the Yuppies & highend consumers, celebrities etc. only ah peks will want to wear specs that still have screws getting loose nowadays.

These type of frames wouldnt be made in china as it would not be costly & time-consuming to produce in bulk?

if a consumer with degree of -7.00 is smart enuf, he wouldnt even have consider porsche design metal frame in the first place, becos too big & angular will just make the lens thick no matter how high index u use.

Just imagine, if the resultant thickness for 1.67 & 1.74 are 8mm & 10mm respectively (just an example), would it make any difference? Cos it will just look as thick!!
