Interesting Zheus/ByWP eye wear. I think it is useful for reading and computer glasses user. I am not sure how well it holds and will it drop off easily. Should be light weight and easily carry around.

ZheusByWP.png

A person's nose supports most of the weight of the specs, so if the prestressed nose bridge is positioned well to provide enough pressure on the nose, it should be able to support the frame and not slip off easily. However, over time it may get loose depending on material & strength of the nosepad arms. You must be able to tighten the pressure from time to time. Becos it only has a nose fitting without side temples, it may only fit some people, and not everyone.

i managed to get a pair of the ray-ban wayfarer's asian fit with prescription sunglasses from new china optician (pennisular plaza)

uncle tony was very friendly and imo, quite the expert.

i paid a total of slightly over 300.

i'm planning to do a pair normal prescription glasses from him as well..

but would like to find out whether the type of lens that he is providing would make a huge difference or not? i believe he told me that my prescription sunglasses are from tokai.

would any experts care to fill me in?

Hi, may i know how does the wayfarer asian fit differ from the normal wayfarer sunglasses? Got pics to compare?

The problem is, people in sg have not reached that level for eyewear as a fashion yet. Most people do not treat eyewear as that much of a fashion whereby you easily change many pairs a year. That is why optical shops here priced their items more becos of the thinking that people will usually not make new pairs of specs if their current one is still functioning. Until eyewear can become a widespread prevalent fashion, you will still find that eyewear are priced at a premium to the cost price. And that is why they usually price eyewear about a few times of the actual cost price. For example, a frame can be sold to you at $100 but the actual cost is really only $20. The less branded the more they earn.

actually now more and more ppl got more pairs of specs.. like me..and i change frames to suite my dressing and activities.... and yes local shops really chopped us deep deep.... not going to be a fool anymore... and will order frames and specs online... =:p My new rule is not going to spend over $200 for a pair of any specs... is not that i cant afford... but is really like throwing $$$ into drain... IMHO...

Currrently have a Tag Reflex (red) and IC Hamilton (gun metal).

Wondering what is the next specs brand that i shd go for?

More skewed towards something suitable for office work, and suitable for a 30+ yo.

Also, was recently given a Ray Ban Aviator Frame ...wondering if i shd replace the Ray Ban lens with unbranded prescriptive sunshade lens (i am not and do not want to wear contact lens).[/

any advice for me? thanks

actually i didnt want to comment but since you posted again, i would like to say that actually tag reflex & ic!berlin dont really suit us asian faces, both becos of the nosepad arm & temples design. I find the temple width too narrow. As you know, our asian heads tend to be the broadest at the middle part, as such straight temples dont really suit us well.

I recommend nanyang optical's in-house brands such as linkskin, eyelet etc. Linkskin frames are not only very functional but also stylish & minimalist-look. My personal opinion is that it suits office executives as it is not too loud, neither is it too plain.

You may also like to try 999.9 japanese frames, but design is plain. They can be found at shinagawa optical. NOt sure if paris miki carry this brand or not. Or if you are keen you can also head down to VG optical at people's park centre to take a look.

hmmm.. but hor, once in a while, you still otta patronise the shops rite? Else they gg to close down due to the competitive mkt. And also, you will need to have a eye check once in a while just to make sure your eyes are ok.

As for me, i will still support retail shops, as long as i can still afford to splurge. At least at the shops i still can get the chance to personally try out the fittings whether ok for me or not. To me, price is not that crucial. But functionality is my top most important criteria.

For $200, those frames that you posted can be gotten locally as well and maybe cheaper. So I don't know how you get chop how you always get chop.

Anyway there are many kinds of consumer. Fortunately, not everyone is like you, if not all the shop will be stocking cheap frames and lenses. :)

Use marker becos they are novice and not confident.

you know what you are talking about???

a maker is used to mark up the lenses to find the optical centre of the lenses and also the axis of the astigmatism if any, before blocking the lenses to be cut. although some newer more advance machines may not require you to do so.

it's not because they are novice and not confident. :s8:

Your assumptions that I go for everything cheap or just on lowest price alone is not correct. I've been wearing spectacles for more than 30 years and I know what are my expectations. I had also paid for high price branded items before. It is just that I think some of the optical shops exploit consumers with unrealistic high price tag. I understand they do need to earn a living, high rents, and so on. If fact they should not sell at cost, with very little profit or at a lost but reasonably price. Sadly, the mark-ups are really high for frames and lens for certain shops.
From my previous example, you can clearly see why the same pair of frame can be differently price by as much as $180 after discounts. This is big number.

When I know that I have to pay $50 more for better services and testings, I will go for that and not sticking to lowest price that you assume to be.

Let me assure you that my expectation of services provide by the optical shops are high and not just going for the lowest price. I had been thru lousy one and good one. I don't value all opticians and optometrists skill levels to be the same.

Very well said. If you have the time to shop around, you will be able to get the best deal.

The under-quote from shop c was just my imagination and it might not be at all.

Since you asked. Let me answer as to why I did not have my lens with them from shop c. The price for that particular lens that I preferred and wanted was way too high. The curve lens that I wanted was Tokia Modecinq progressive 1.6. They quoted me RRP $950 and they offered 15% off. Still high for me when I know I can easily have it for around $450, also directly from Japan and he can't match my price.

I can't fault shop c for the RRP $950 because I tried a few other shops and I was getting the same quotes.

When I purchased the ByWP from them, I was very satisfied with their services. I had my free complimentary full eye test, with certain tests usually perform by my eye doctor. He even put me to the Zeiss I.Terminal for precise measuring and fitting analysis. So I am blessed. :)

I would like to know where you can get the modecinq for $450. they will probably close shop soon if they sell at this kind of price.

Now you know why you get the BYWP frame at such low or good price? because they are going to charge you more for the lenses to make up for it.

As for the complimentary full eye test and putting throught the Zeiss iterminal, i think all these are wayang. If you had told them up front that you are not going to buy the lenses, I wonder if they would still spend so much time checking your eyes. Otherwise, all those checking are done to make you change your mind so that you buy from them.

I can tell you that optometrists who values their expertise and time will not do free eye exams. unless they work in a chain stores and such tactics are determined by their bosses.
