haha... expert talks... don't understand... hahaha...

I only know that person uses 5 rows of letters from big to small.... thats all...
and mainly ask me to read the 2nd smallest row.

and of course... lastly is ask to to see whether words on green is better or on red is better...

its a test where they use a LENS ON A STICK and keep flipping 1 and 2. asking u which is rounder darker and clearer. maybe he "shortcut" use the auto refractor results as ur astig prescription?

does Nikon or Carl Zeiss look better in terms of transparency clearness? Meaning the anti reflection coating is superb?

I know Nikon is well known for that. How about Carl Zeiss?

what i feel is its subjective. i've tried both. i cant really differentiate the AR coating for both and transparency also.

NAH. You are so wrong. If we give patients the prescription that they are most Comfortable with then what for train optometrists?

Many Ah tiong Patients that i see always ask me to give them a lower prescription even when they are seeing 6/9 or worse. This is because of a wrong mindset. Their doctors over in Ah tiong land told them that if a full prescription was given to them, their prescription will increase as the year go by. This is a false perception of the public.

Similarly, If a patient prefers a OVER-corrected prescription, WE CANNOT GIVE IT TO THEM. :)This is because an over corrected near sighted (myopia) prescription sets of the focusing muscles in the eye and strains it. Research studies have shown that this Strain caused on the muscles is one of the possible factors leading to the development of myopia. This is especially true in young children because of the very active muscle in the eye. This can potentially cause them to be severely myopic in the future. Thats why you must always trust your optometrist on your prescription.

However, human do make errors. That is why our patients response is very important when checking their prescription. you must voice out any discomfort and the optometrist will adjust accordingly. that is why frequent eye checks is required. Most commonly, once a year so potentially blinding diseases can also be detected early.

so u believe tat ur prescription is more important than the customer's comfort?even if the customer isnt comfortable with ur prescription, u will still insist on prescribing ur own prescription?

so why do i pay money to make myself suffer?

Its not called a prescription for nothing. If we give in to patient's request of having a higher prescription. Should their near-sightedness progress WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE. you or me? think over it.

Optometrist are not trained in Healthcare for nothing. Of course we must also look into patient's comfort. If their request is too overboard, we WILL NOT PRESCRIBE.

If patient's prescription is -2.00DS with 6/6 vision and he request that he prefers-3.00DS with 6/6 vision. IT would not be right to prescribe -3.00DS as his power as it would be too over powered. Over powered prescription can lead to further progression of myopia.

Similarly in cases where patients request for -1.50 with 6/7.5 vision. I would first look into his daily activities and if this reduction in best vision would endanger their daily lives. LETs say an electrician request for a lower prescription and his job requires a very minute visual ability. I CANNOT LET HIM GO OFF WITH reduced visual ability. Should he get electrocuted, who would be liable? AGAIN, YOU OR ME?

GET IT?:look:

optician vs optometrist

got difference?

Yes of course. Opticians (ACOPOD+R) are only trained in refraction (prescription checking). Opticians (ACOPOD) are only trained in dispensing glasses). Optometrists are trained to Diagnose eye conditions and treat minor visual conditions. Through checking the prescription there are certain conditions that can be picked up by the optometrist but opticians are not quite trained to do so.

ur obviously a noob. or u have a poor command of english.

who ever said anything abt over-prescribing?? im talking abt giving ur patients a comfortable vision. how will adding -1.00 to their -2.00 make them see or feel comfortable? maybe u could try adding -1.00 to your current prescription and tell me if u feel comfortable :s11:

and ur examples are way off...if an electrician requires a lower degree, y wouldnt u prescribe the lower degree? im assuming an electrician does near work most of the time. by lowering their degree by a mere -0.25 or even -0.50 to -1.50 will most probably make his near work better, no? this is even more the case if ur electrician is presbyopic, right?

many eye-care practitioners (tats wat u guys are called right?) like urself only care abt long distance vision i.e 6/6 vision but how many pple here make use of tat 6/6 vision all day long? most of us are cooped up in cubicles facing computers all day long! and wat good does a 6/6 vision do for near work? u being TRAINED in healthcare should know better.

im not trained like u. but i read up a lot in this area cos i treasure my eyes. i visit my regular optical shop pretty often too as i like to collect spectacles and they share a lot of information with me and after speaking to u, its good to know tat i've been visiting the correct place all these years :)
