MOscot Lemtosh Designer frames usually worn by celebrity Johnny Depp? hmmm, my current pair of specs look exactly like lemtosh, round & black in color, super nerdy. Except tat mine is not plastic but instead made of titanium with nosepads. The lemtosh plastic frame's nose bride looks too wide for me, i need something with narrow/high bridge. I dont think i wanna make something similar to wat im wearing now. And becos itd round in shape, the frame is deeper and thus touches my cheeks, esp if i smile. I have fat round cheeks.

oh dear... my new spec... with Hoya 1.7 aspheric and sft coating...

find Hoya not as good as Seiko and Zeiss in terms of its reflective coating! looking at the mirror,,, see my own eyes also not as clear as the 2. from side view can feel reflection of light...

I think next time i wont go for Hoya...

Also found out Hoya lens are thicker than Seiko!
Despite being 1.7 and Seiko only 1.67... and comparing the area of same length.. its already slightly thicker...

The lens also slightly darker... meaning... looking yourself in the mirror can see the coating... not as clear as Seiko and Zeiss (as if you cannot see the presence of lens)... at first i thought how come i eye area becomes darker in the mirror...

Most of the frames i tried are not comfortable. Even if those that are comfy at the first try at the shop & decide to buy, the initial few weeks maybe feel ok but after that the frame will start to feel uncomfy. I dunnoe wad is the reason. Is it becos my body starts to reject the frame after few weeks? U noe just like when u did an organ transplant then the body starts to reject the new organ after some time causing organ failure?

Even after so many years, im not able to relate my discomforts to the optician, just cant figure out where the unbalanced parts are, because im unable to look at my own head from outside angle.

I only know that i need to push my left temple in to feel comfy, the left side always feel like "dropping out", the left side always feel tighter than the right side. How to adjust?

You cant adjust for oily face, other than keep washing face. My frame feels the most comfy putting on everytime after bathing & washing my specs becos thats the only time when there is no oil at all& the frame able to stick & hold in place. But that will only last until the next morning.

Hmmm, anyway i hav already spent too much $ looking for the right specs / optician that I just have to stick to my current pair and force myself get used to it & accept the flaws & discomfort & shouldnt bother & think abt it anymore.

I have given up hope of getting a good specs.

its not bad. there are various frames size for different ppl...so choose with care!

the starck eyewear is known for its frames' hinge - the biomechnical articulation, multi-directional like a human shoulder.

how did you actually compare the thickness? are you comparing the thickness (assuming same degree) in the same frame with the same pupil distance? you have to know the variables involved in order to make an accurate comparison.

the most accurate way is to use a thickness gauge and compare the thickness using uncut lens.

If every pair feels the same like what you have described, then either something could be wrong with your head structure and the frame has to be bent to fit the shape of your head.

And you mentioned that it keeps slipping off your nose. choose a light frame with thin lenses (to minimise weight) with non slip silicon nose pads to minimise the slippage problem.

You dont have much choices in sg. They make the lenses all flat nowadays that what everybody wants. Aspheric is flat, double even flatter. Just get the HOYA 1.7. NOt many shops have nikon means its gg to be phased out in a matter of time so better dont think abt getting tat. I was conned into getting nikon seemax & they say its sharpest & wadeva ruvvish. In the end the vision is NOT very sharp. The salesman just wanna clear their nikon stocks thats why promoted it. Bro Don think too much into it. Just make sure your HOYA 1.7 is sft coating & i think it can last you a number of year from then on.

the fact is , if you want your lenses to be thin, they have to make it flat at the front. if you don't mind the thickness, then there are still lenses that has a bit of curve at the front, if not they have to be custom made.

So if your prescription is high, maybe more than 600 degree, and you want your lens to be thin, then they will look flat at the front. It's just life, and physics. you have to accept it.

Just curious of the process...
Optical shop will send the frame to the lab for cutting and fixing?
What about the lens? Does the lab carry the lens? or it is from another source? and shop will send the frame and then the lens is from another location to the lab?

Nowadays, most optical shop will send the frame to the lab for the lens to be cut into the frame. the cost of the lens cutting machine is very expensive and is not cost effective to cut the lens themselves unless they are chain store with high vol business.

As for the lens, the lab will have the lens in stock. of course you don't expect them to manufacture the lens in singapore.

so if u order hoya lens, the shop will send your job to hoya lab (which carry the lens) to have the lens cut into it.

to have the prescription lens cut into the frame requires a machine that is of high prescision. Unless they are using a lousy and cheap machine to cut the lens, then you will get a shoddy product. Of course the skill of the technician is also very important, especially when it comes to rimless frames and also difficult jobs, especially high prescription lenses.

for optometrist or optician who has experience cutting lenses before will anticipate the potential problems when you are choosing frames for your prescription.

Eye champ is having 50% sales but I suspect that they have mark up a bit n then give a massive discount of half the retail price when norm is about 20%..

Saw quite a couple of brands I like ray ban, Tom ford, Dior and Porsche design just to name a few...

Luckily starck is not under the promo brands. Else heart pain since I recently bought a pair there! Lol

Does anyone has positive experience with the eye champ outlet in AMK central? I saw quite alot of brands in window display. But no idea about their eye testing process etc. Any feedback? Thanks.

Compare by measuring same length height and width of both lens... although slightly different size... so those part must be be factored in... and its on same prescription... focus point, degree asti... etc

So I would still rate Seiko and Zeiss lens to be better than Hoya... Maybe I would try Nikon next time...
Seiko and Nikon are still surviving strong in other countries... just that for Singapore... they don't have labs... and need to send to Japan.
But for Nikon... i'm just shocked to see the the price list from Paris Miki.... so expensive...as compared to Essilor, Hoya and Seiko.

Or maybe I should consider Lasik...

actually went for the Crizal at 1st but they call me few days later and said they cant make the lens due to my high degree...
gave me 2 choice nikon and tokai.. and was told tokai was better.. same Price $125

tokai lenses with PGC coating TOKAI OPTICAL CO.,LTD. : Product : COATING

is it good? but they never give warranty card... only gave receipt and say can use as warranty..

previously all my specs are about $200-300 so thinking is this too good to be so cheap? japan lenses..

Just made a pair of new spectacle for myself after using the old frame for almost a decade. New Spec: Tag Heuer C-Flex Carbon Fiber frame + Tokai 1.76 bi-Aspheric lens with MSC coating. Total damage $2150. Is the price reasonable? Or am I being chop?

I just made a spec yesterday at Better Vision. It's a progressive lens as I am old already.

I looked at the price list of different brand of lenses, I was quite shocked at the price. The hoya one is near to $1K & other brand like Zeiss also not cheap.

At last, I got their inhouse brand from USA which is cheaper.........

The Porsche Sunglasses really looked nice but price also not cheap. Maybe I will changed my frame next time.

yes, i suppose someting is wrong with my head structure but i cant change that, if theframe is bent & twisted all over it will look ugly (makes me feel psychologically imbalanced as well)& could break from overbending.

I have tried light frames, but it will still slip off becos most frames if they are light they dont have the grip as well. How thin can lenses be when prescription is high, can only be up to a certain extent & the lenses always heavier than the frame if the frame is the light ones. And for those light frames usually they are unable to cover the thickness of the lenses = ugly its just so hard to find a good frame. Silicon will still slip on oily surfaces & overtime they lose the stickiness as well although they are still a better option.
The opticians offer no solutions, they either just ask you how i feel & where im feeling uncomfortable but even after adjustments still feel uncomfortable. Some get so frustrated that they ask me to go find other optician if i think that they are no good while others just tell me to get used to my frame.
