IMO, most of the brands are similar in terms of material and construction. Probably down to wallet design, but that's a personal preference already. Braun Buffel seems popular, but bear in mind these mall-grade wallets are not buy-it-for-life type of quality.

Hey boss, you are right. My braun buffel wallet starts to cui after abt 3yrs. Neeeding a new wallet soon. How long do you need to make one?

Finally got around to making a fully decked out classic bifold wallet out of Shell Cordovan. This one is Color 8 from Horween. One side of the wallet has card slots, while the other side contains a coin pouch. Hard to get this to stay thin, but tried to do my best to prevent it from becoming too bulky since it's fully-lined and all leather only.

If you are referring to store bought, usually they don't use leather lining. But for custom orders, I only use leather lining. No point using good leather when the fabric spoils first.

If we are talking about just the croc skin itself: different grade of croc skins, different species, different tannery, different colour - all will lead to difference price.

If we are talking about the construction: different interior leather, different construction method, different specification (fully lined?) etc also all have different price point

Lastly, if we are referring to craftsman - different level of craftsmanship will have different price points.

And that's why you can find croc wallets ranging from $300+ to $2000+. For a custom wallet, you really are buying into the maker more than you are buying into the product.

Not a problem. Ya a lot of craftsmen here are very good at their craft. If you have a chance to look at their work in person, you might be able to better tell the quality since photos can omit the truth sometimes :)

Hi Guys! Looking for a new wallet!

Thinking either PRADA/LV or Chestermox kind of “brandless” wallet. Any thoughts?

For the same price, I would say a handmade "brandless" wallet will always give you more bang for the buck. Better leather used, better construction method, better finishing. Why pay for the brand, unless you view the wallet as a status symbol? Even then, a "brandless" one shows that you are a discerning buyer ;)

Of course, I am biased too...

Wanted to share some of the bifolds that I made recently:

1. Classic Bifold in goat leather (chevre) from France. Chevre is popular because of it's scratch-resistant and water-resistant properties. It doesn't patina, unlike natural veg tan, which makes it desirable amongst those that wish for their wallets to look the same as it gets used.

2. Modern Bifold in Navy Museum Calf from Ilcea. Museum Calf is a very interesting leather due to the variation in the colour and shading. As you can see, there is a mix of darker and lighter shades of navy blue. On smaller items (watch straps), this isn't so obvious but on something like a wallet, the marbled effect really shows itself. This effect is very subtle and is only seen in a bright place, or daylight. When indoors, the wallet just looks navy blue/black, depending on the lighting.

3. Classic Bifold with a Color 8 Shell Cordovan exterior, and Sedgwick Bridle interior. Another classic wallet made with a Color 8 exterior. This time, a dark brown Bridle leather was used for the interior to match the Color 8, and lined with a brown Chevre at the notes section. Bridle is incredibly stiff, and has a high wax content. Fresh from the tannery, the surface is spotted white with the wax and only upon brushing or polishing it off does it reveal the beautiful natural shine of the leather. The wax contributes to its scratch-resistant property, allowing small scratches and marks to be buffed out easily.

Just received my wallet. Overall feel quite ok la. Not as high end as Hughes but price of cos much cheaper though the one by Hughes was full croc interior and exterior and probably the skin is of better grade.

Looks quite alright! More importantly is whether you are happy with the final product. The crease in the middle is probably the biggest turn off for me, usually thicker and stiffer leather will do that. Stitching looks good, edge finish is alright.

At the notes compartment, is that a suede lining or is it just unlined? I can't quite tell - initially I thought it was unlined but the consistency of the flesh side between the croc and the interior leather makes me think it is intentionally lined with suede instead.

Just to confirm by lining u meant the black part indicated by the orange lines right? That's not suede, just rough fabric.
