PS: Not trolling and sincere in getting new watch
Hi bros,
After working for more than 10 years and having 2 kids into primary education houses, car, finally got the approval from CFO to get a Rolex watch
I have a couple of questions and with the wealth of knowledge of the bros here, I believe it could be answered:
1) based on various reading in the posting, understand that it's no-go to purchase from official shop but instead go for AD (hour glass, sincere, WOS?) or Grey (chuan watch, KB luxury?)
it'd be good to know how important buying that rolex is to you, what watches do you wear currently (if any), how do you feel about watches in general and whether you plan to wear that rolex daily.
if it's gonna be a milestone watch, you may consider the full AD/boutique experience. sure the discounts suck, you pay slightly more, but some people prefer that than buying 2nd hand (essentially & technically, that's what grey sets are - no matter how "BNIB", "unworn" and layers of plastic stickers they leave on them, cos you're NOT the first owner that's recorded in rolex database).
some more experienced watch owner buy pre-owned/grey sets cos they know enough to know how to examine the watch, has already priced-in the verification fee @ RSC and how much discount the technically 2nd watch should fetch.
2) what is the difference in buying from AD and Grey besides the cheaper prices from grey? My concerns would be on warranty and of cos may be getting 1 for CFO next year.
not for international sets with international warranty afaik. us sets with us warranty may be another matter. experienced rolex owners can tell you more.
your wife may not like a pre-owned piece from a grey dealer. you know her best. you may have to bring her to an AD to be treated like a queen there?
3) I have narrowed down to 3 models in mind, Sub (116610LN), GMT master II (116710BLNR) and yatch master (Everest Gold 116655) which CFO likes the look. Can anyone advise the ranges of prices for these models? If it's sensitive, can pm as well?
nothing sensitive lah! just walk into any showroom like you own the joint and ask them the price. or check out any dealer website. it's transparent. buying a luxury watch is not that intimidating after you own one.
you can always go to watchrecon.com and chrono24.sg websites and key in the watch models you are interested in to have a feel of the pre-owned market valuation of the watches. this gives you a good estimate of the prevailing depreciation of the watches in question.
4) would prefer paying by credit card and definitely going for installment even I have the cash currently to maximize the interest n cash flow on hand. Of cos price of the watch will also be consideration further with CFO.
many bros here have already suggested splitting up payments using their cc to maximize cashback. if you can get an even better discount with cash upfront, more power to you!
5) what does the alphabet in the serial no (e.g AN series) means and do I need to pay attention to this?
after 2010, rolex no longer serialize their watch serial numbers. it's all random alphanumeric now.
Thank you in advance!
