they're legit but abit action. see ppl no up unless u wear a AP in.

their vintage must be careful, alot franken.

Actually I think a lot of shops sell frankens when it comes to vintage. Went to afew in Bencoolen and others. Most of time, crystal is not original, but according to them, its fine unless dial, movement etc changed. But they will say so if you ask.

IMHO, the concept of franken is kind of contentious.

Would original Rolex replacement parts constitute franken?
Movement wise how would a layman be able to confirm franken or not?
Period correct bracelet can check number to an extent. dial maybe font type. watch hands?

These questions would mostly end up rhetorical because the vintage experts really guard their knowledge and only share sparingly, if you make it into their circles.

Yes, that's the problem.... vintage is a subject that really takes so much effort to understand and gain some deeper knowledge on. For me, it's really about trusting the seller's word and buying the seller.:s8:

I am still new to vintage watches, still learning before pull trigger.

What i see are claims of "authentic" on some well known sites, but closer inspection of photos or physical watches show either 3rd party parts (non-authentic) or from the manufacturer but meant for a later watch model (not period authentic).

For a newbie, not so easy buying the seller. Sometime gotta write off purchases as "tuition fees", if not, will never anything ☺

Movement is the least concern.
Dial, insert, case, crystal, hands are crucial.
Ppl are paying top dollar for these asthetics

answer
Nope. Franken is when period is not correct using original rolex parts.
Replacement or service parts of the same period.
Or rather any changes made to the watch is considered Franken to purist. While some are fine with it

Both equally gg.
Movement wise how would a layman be able to confirm franken or not?
Movement I doubt can Franken but there maybe fake parts inside it.
Period correct bracelet can check number to an extent. dial maybe font type. watch hands?
watch hands is harder to tell but from watch to watch, there maybe different set of hands use. For example same red arrow S big red arrow for gmt master. However dial and insert can see period correct or not

These questions would mostly end up rhetorical because the vintage experts really guard their knowledge and only share sparingly, if you make it into their circles.

Vintage is not easy. No one truly knows. Even historians. They can be wrong too
Learn online lor. Alot of resources around.
Go around looking at stuff.
Take a pic of what ppl is selling and compare at Home with pictures online.

But seriously, whatever I know about vintage. Be it rolex, omega etc etc is really nothing.
So take it as hobby and learning journey.
Don't need to exactly buy unless you have spare coins to burn incase crap, happened

Problem being the buyer also not sure where he got it from or will ever know if anything is being change.
So buying the seller could help us all feel better and enjoy the watch.

Can stalk lunar oyster, but his price abit steep.
Local dealers, better not.
None of them know their stuff well.
Not even montres or monster. Even Goldman.
I heard stories that can't be shared here.
So learn your stuff before buying.

For eg. Tropical dial can be achieved by microwaving.
Faded bezel by rubbing bleach on it so the back of the insert remains solid.

Noticed increased number of posts asking whether such and such offer is worth it. This can be sign of 2 things :

1)GX reputation, for which he can charge $5 for every consultation

2)Times looking up and people are spending on luxury.

shipping? overseas? cost?

I'm fine with it but I would like to look for more options. Mainly looking at leather straps. Cost probably about $10-$20 per strap.
