Local dealers, better not.
None of them know their stuff well.
Not even montres or monster. Even Goldman.
I heard stories that can't be shared here.
So learn your stuff before buying.

For eg. Tropical dial can be achieved by microwaving.
Faded bezel by rubbing bleach on it so the back of the insert remains solid.

I agree about some local dealers. When unable to answer, they fall back on assertions, "trust us, we know more than you, we are in business for so long." not convincing, and condescending.

CNS leather straps has got their keepers done very loose, and the strap drops out all the time.

Hmm the two or three I got were ok. Maybe QC problem?

其实任何錶款，不分贵贱，都是亏钱的。你以为花个一两万，还是更高就能在放手后收回7，8成的本金嗎？？？这种想法太傻了。。。

任何錶款，回值多少还是要看天时地利人和种种的环境因素的。

我建议，你参考二手商网页的标价记录，看看你的錶款二手价卖多少。别执意的要跟二手商的价格卖出，比他们便宜少一些，求个尽快脱手。

most of the stuff they offload to regulars la. thinking they got a solid deal but dont know got kena burn anot.

Strap looks good better but I prefer to wear bracelet in hot and wet SG.

The GMT2C bracelet won't fit the case of the aluminum GMT

IMHO, the concept of franken is kind of contentious.

Would original Rolex replacement parts constitute franken?
Movement wise how would a layman be able to confirm franken or not?
Period correct bracelet can check number to an extent. dial maybe font type. watch hands?

These questions would mostly end up rhetorical because the vintage experts really guard their knowledge and only share sparingly, if you make it into their circles.

Me too noob in LKK rollies.. but i try share 2Cs.

Try to find the timepiece as "original" as possible k..
There is tooo many things to know..
most collectors will loathe Rolex Service parts (esp dial).. sadly, these do take a chunk out of its value.
"matching" hands.. for some (e.g the lollipops used for the BCs,"swords" used for the milsubs and the dauphine hands on the 2998s) these r almost as impt as the dial..
Matching hands for aesthetic value too! Will you like shirts with sleeves of different colour? Admit it.. We r vain people.

Well.. a "franken" movement could be using a later (e.g. hacking) movement for a watch manufactured during another (e.g. non hacking) period.. Not so impt tho.. these parts are "hidden" beneath the dial and hands.

And..
Dun need be smoked by those dealers seemingly so "honest" to "declare" that the crystal is the ONLY NOT period correct part. Bencoolen? LoL. GG.

"Closely guarded secrets"? Not really.. oftentimes there is just too much to knowledge but too little i know. rather than be clouded by different opinions, why not discover for yourself what you like?
"Modern" Vintage collecting is another league.. because everybody keeps their best and seldom ppl sell.. there is lack of good pieces in the market today.. So, too bad, there is no "fixed" price on a timepiece.
You like it, you will have to PAY for it!

Thats normal. If it's magnetised its much more than that like 20secs or even minutes fast per day. Lower qrades mechanical can be 2 dgit fast per day and be also normal.

I'm fine with it but I would like to look for more options. Mainly looking at leather straps. Cost probably about $10-$20 per strap.

legit can try taobao.
bought nylon/leather nato and 2 piece leather straps from there too.
obviously quality isn't going to be that fantastic la but it does the job well for something around $5. No complaints

alot of sellers in carousell, source from taobao. just bought a leather strap from taobao that looks like this, sellers in carousell selling for $40-45
i paid $20? or less

somemore they spam freebies, give springbar, springbar tool etc. springbar tool ppl selling $5-$10, i got alot, throw away also cause cmi quality.
