so i was looking around online and i came across the costs of servicing and restoring an omega watch from their official website...

SGD500 to SGD940 (non-precious materials) and starts at SGD2800 respectively.

are such undertakings really neccessary? would like to hear from those with omegas. i think the watches are already of a certain quality and durability at those price points so assuming you wear them normally and not do anything out of the ordinary, is there really a need for those services?

i quote from the official website:

" Therefore, we recommend that you have the water resistance checked once a year and a complete service performed every 4 to 5 years."

4 to 5 years seem reasonable but neccessary? i'm thinking every 9 to 10 years from what i've read so far on other forums.

buying a proton vs lamborghini.. hmm.. lamborghini also need routine oil change.
yes proton maybe every 5k vs lambo 7.5K.
mechanical parts from more expensive company can defy the law of physics? oil on the watch do breakdown over time. quality and durable toyota still need to be service. remember watches still runs mechanically. luxury items do not defy law of physics.
lux watches you pay for the marketing, brand, fit and finish.. iirc an article wrote mechanical watches profit margin is like 80-90%.

if U are not diving chances are U can service every 9-10yrs.
if U are using it as a tool watch better do them 5yrs.

FYI George Daniels invented the co axial movement tested how long watch can go service. if you watch on co axial do it every 10yrs.

For me, the furthest I've ever gone in the watch game was a Sub C ND...yet it has never come across my mind that one day I'll be able to bring this baby back, looks like this shall remain in my collection for a prolonged period of time!

Not really la, got a scratch at the bezel at 20 min mark and a small chip at the edge of the sapphire at 50min mark. Rest is ok. Did not really know how to cherish good watches during my younger days.
