Anyone with AP RO , hows the maintenance?
thinking to get the gold one , but 2 different friends who both got RO and ROO advise me not to.
they both got it second hand and always send in for servicing(less than 5yrs old) , and one of them got rid of their ROO after 3 times sending in.

want to know if its common or they just got the lemon

i have no issues with AP (owning a few AP RO and ROO) , except recently i sent in my diver which i got it from a grey dealer.
the bezel insert got some issue but AP told me it was opened by third party before so warranty void. lucky left 2 months for the warranty.
i told them to service it and replace the insert, my grey dealer willing to settle half the bill and i get 2 years warranty.

RO have the least issues. older ROO maybe have more issues as it's a modular chronograph movement, servicing not cheap + not alot of external watchmakers willing to do it (too difficult and not worth the time)

servicing ROO the bill can be upwards of 2-6k, depends if there's any part replacement.

the new ROO with their flyback chrono, hit and miss, heard horror stories about them.

i prefer the old ROO

Material doesnt matter, as the interior is the same. my fren ROO vampire service 2 time within 6 months and end up he sell as he felt need to bring in again for 3rd time.

as for RO wise, AP recommend service every 2 yr. its better to maintain it ? rather than like rolex, only service when its not moving.

AP recommend, doesn't mean it's a must, Rolex also say every 5 years.
no problem, fix for what.

if you scare, don't buy lor. for me, i never had major issues with AP and i ran thru at least 10 different models of them over the last 7 years

Sure. If you're afraid of maintenance, buy a Rolex. More robust that's for sure

To add, AP movements are more "artisanal" that's why tend to be more "delicate"

I wanted to bring my 13 year old GMT2 for uncle Lim to service and he said no need since it was still running perfectly
