Hi guys, I'm currently looking for a formal watch that I can wear to work. Not so concern about the movement, I think most watches should be fine in that aspect. Budget is not more than $3000.

I'm not a watch collector, so just wanna get a reliable and nice one to last me for many years.

I'm open to 2nd hand ones also, if its in good condition.

I once had a seiko kinetic, cost me just $800 and lasted me for almost 10 years, hence I have a great inclination and good feel about seiko watches. BUT the impression i get from people around me is that seiko is uncle and, well, not prestigious. Ok I'm uncle level age also already though lol

I saw a 2nd hand Zenith watch gg for about $3k+ in far east and it looks good.

Saw some omega online for about that range also.

Any recommendations for a formal watch that does not need changing of battery, and good enough to wear to work below 3k?

women probably don't need expensive watches. fashion watches do very well for them actually. no guys will judge them on their watches (but not vice versa).

if into divers, suggest this. above your budget but chio. about sgd2.2k + tax on jomashop but women typically prefer smaller watches so it may not be to her taste.

best brand that women will not reject is cartier. just buy 1x good one instead of a longines then down the road wont lose its gloss.

have you tried the zenith on your hand? it's not really to my taste and i think typically sizes a bit large for asian wrists.

3000 budget probably tudor.

up some more 5000ish people will usually get omega but i find it wayyyy to common for my taste already.

maybe you can look for a classy 2nd hand JLC or maybe a cartier (if your dress sense matches) instead. but it'll be prob 5k as well.

What is your wrist size? I would presume if you wear a seiko, you would be comfortable with 41-43mm watches? I used to wear Seiko, but the size is really too big for my wrist.

Depends on your dressing style, a Tudor would be an all rounder, 41mm heritage black, maybe a little more than 3k?

Alternatively, you can try Cartier Tank second hand if you are into the classy dapper style.

Or seagull 1963 if you're into vintage chrono look.

You can get a omega speedy reduced for under 3k I believe.

Buy if you like it but panerai are not that popular nowadays and expect it to depreciate largely unless you are getting popular models like 111/005

I understand U don't care about movement so much but it can impact a few things.
- Who can service it?
- The cost of servicing?
- Does maker still make parts to service?

say Seiko, they stop making parts 10 or 20yrs after they discontinued. Grand Seiko servicing not sure if they are done in SG. My credor SD needs to be done in Japan.

Zenith El primero, many 3rd party place may have problem with servicing and cost of servicing higher.

mechanical watch is not design to last many yrs without servicing. modern oils does last very long, u still may want to do it every 5yrs or so. watch running well does not mean it does not require servicing. how many years it is reliable for depends on if you maintaining it. Used watch depending on age, watch may not be service. Not service records I assume no service. depending on age, I will ship it to get it service, getting it oiled, replaced the gaskets etc. If u not servicing a cause damage to parts, that is more costly to replace, in the case of Seiko may not be able to replace at all.

Since you have a great inclination towards Seiko, you might want to try a Grand Seiko. The finishing on the Grand Seiko is great!

Sinn is a good choice too (but too toolish as a formal watch). You might want to consider Tudor as well.
