I think Seiko to me is just a brand that has nice stuff, but always drops the ball in some ways, whether it is design, materials or QC. To be fair, I think they are addressing the demand for design/materials but that means it's also really lost its edge for value. Some detailed examples:

1) I really, really liked the SPB143 and the design/size, but the bracelet which claims to have hard coating scratched so easily. I say this having tried other Seikos with the same coating, and honestly, can't help but feel that maybe some corners have been cut in between despite pricing going up.
2) I also really really liked the MM Quartz Tuna (SBBN031), but crystal is hardlex. Then while the new version has sapphire, its hands look so cheap (being edged in white, when silver would have been the better choice).. I suppose I could buy and mod, but that's just a bit silly for a watch that is $1K+.

These days, I think it is a better bet for value if you go for a microbrand with Seiko movements, lol. Or Orient... Orient is the new Seiko to me.

I can so relate to this, but even with Orient i only really like and bought the mako 2 looks.

probably another sun and moon but i can never see myself actually buying 1 more orient.

Many of the entry level Orients have a relatively benign/run of the mill design. Probably safer.

Above $400 or so is when they get a bit more creative (e.g. Orient M-Force). I do wish they have more mid-size models though.

Good choice,
Dont know the disc.... but buy sooner or later, JLC price keeps going every yr
Else go grey... price difference can be 20-30% from RRP
