Can enlighten why don't buy quartz and what's beater?

I'm keen to get the tissot quartz perpetual calendar on page 25 or 26 of this thread. But I'm also in a dilemma should I pay more to kind an automatic with perpetual calendar. Any advice from anyone?

Ok, what im saying is that, quartz watches should not be spent on usually, unless you are getting a specific purpose watch, eg. sports or a product to suffer from wear and tear purposely.

Quartz are made to be worn in a rugged manner. Beater watches are watches destinied for controlled abuse.

1. quartz is cheaply made and holds low value in resale market. It is poorly regarded. You can get it cheap too.

2. If you use it as a beater, you dont need to care about it. it will withstand knocks, drops and will function perfectly. I cannot say the same about automatics.

3. With a battery watch, it is too easy to put any kind of complication inside. A battery watch can satisfy your beater timing needs because of multi function ability

4. Quartz mechanism is susceptible to battery leak for long term, so its like a short term watch.

5. When you pay alot of money for a watch(above a certain range of $$), you would need justification. The product has to be different.

Just like how we spend money on earphones, slrs, bags......given a choice, will you pay $1,000 for a fabric/canvas bag?

we would pay $100 for the fabric/canvas bag.

6. Logically, people will use cheap beater watch, because expensive ones means more maintenance, future restoration fees and depreciation.

Quartz is easy and cheap to service.

Alternatively, if its a non beater that means you would wear it on certain occasions, and on the certain occasions, you want to look smart.

Automatic watches goes well with smart dressing.

If you use automatic as daily beater, its troublesome to set time once awhile because automatic is not accurate

Regarding your tissot question, i think you could buy an automatic visodate to use as dress.

And a quartz tissot or ck, but not too expensive as a daily watch to suffer from wear and tear.

But do be aware that the more you pay for a quartz, you are getting very little at the end of the day. So you must set a budget.

Automatics are generally worth a premium, because automatics have different levels of complications and finish

But if you are rich, you can wear anything u like...lol

since theres a zeppelin watch involve i would like to ask
if its worth to get a zeppelin mechanical watch?

some examples are the
zeppelin 7652 using movement ETA 2826-2, mechanic, self-winding, 25 jewels, Swiss made
or
zeppelin 7656 using movement Cal. 821A, mechanic, self-winding, 21 jewels


would like to know more about the movement or am i better off getting other watch that looks similar?
example will be like the visodate.
asking this as i do not have much info on zeppelin watches. thanks

Thanks for your input, KohChris! I guess I'll get the tissot quartz perpetual calendar first. In future when I saved up then I'll get an automatic. I must say that visodate is really tempting. If only I could buy both at the same time. Haha.

if u dare to shop online u can get great auto watches at a great price. some brand has better customer service. Tissot belongs to Swatch, there has been complains here with their customer service. Don't need to exercise warranty or return to them for servicing no issue.
online brands like christopherward offer 5yrs warranty, 60 day money back refund if u don't like it. They pay for your shipping if u were to refund or return for servicing. its the pain of to bringing it to post office and send thats all vs going down to service centre and queue.
UHR.info offer great value for ETA 7750 watches.

Cal 821A is miyota does not hack and cannot handwind IIRC thats why 1/3 the price.

Try this tactic, ask for freebies and straps, tell them other retailer offer 25% but u only want deal at 30%, and if they are hesitant, tell them that u are ok without receipt

Yup, servicing and maintenance is also another issue to think about if I purchase an automatic watch.

I've just seen christopherward website. Never heard of them, probably due to my own exposure to this market isn't that great. And also realised they only started in 2005.

young brands are often eager to grow and thus prices are often lower. since they only sell online cutting the middleman they have to do well in customer service.
