Some ppl swear by tissot visodate
Others go for stowa, die hard fans wait 3 mths for a watch.
U can try frederique constant, Louis erard
Epos, not well marketed here but watch has a better movement than those well marketed brands

what is grey btw?

Classic manufacture costing ~4k?
Grey are not authorized dealer, they get watch from AD such as hour glass when they have a hard time selling. They cannot offer manufacture warranty.

i'm looking for a watch too, $2-3k. but seemed like it is hard to find one that is nice, of reputable brand and fits the budget..

the ones i like are like 5k for carrera or 7k+ for rolex.. i dont want to be spendrift on a first watch but rolex do offer values and can be seen as an investment, thus not splurging.

if not really must settle for seiko???

What la? which grey have u got b4?
Typically No warranty from watch maker just grey dealer.
AD does not stamp the warranty card when letting the watch go at steep discount.

Hi. I have recently receive a Tissot Visodate ( Automatic watch) for my Birthday. Since it is my first Automatic watch, I was wondering if there is any tips in taking care of an automatic watch. I'm not a total novice especially in Automatic watch but would like to get more educated on how to properly take care of my watch. Thanks :)

i was in europe in nov, seems to me best price is in Florence, then Venice, then Paris, then London.. Milan and Rome not cheap as Florence or Venice.
im referring to final price after tax rebate.

I will be staying in germany for sometime, thought of going to Switzerland over the weekend then buy IWC as souvenir from Switzerland, is that a good idea?

It's not that simple I'm afraid. In Sweden the GST is 25% [incredible, isn't it? -- and yet some people think their system is wonderful] *but* you are not going to get all of that back when you leave the country. It depends on how much you spend and on how determined you are.
I wont buy from Sweden then, plan to buy from IWC originated country, Switzerland.

Scandinavia and Eastern Europe (Croatia and Hungary):
Tax rates of Europe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I know in Denmark you are charged ex-VAT prices, don't need to queue for refund like UK.

Alternatively buy from websites operating in these countries but you have to pay (sg) GST.

thanks for sharing this website, very useful, and I notice Switzerland has only 8% of gst, not sure if I can bargain for lower price there or not. otherwise it will be my ideal location to get IWC.

after putting on yr wrist, shake your hand 15 times (as in pcc motion), then swing arm round and round 15 times in clockwise direction, lastly swing arm round and round anti-clockwise 15 times.

before removing the watch, repeat the above :D

yes there is a minimum spend for some countries but if you're buying a watch (in this thread's context) that will not be an issue. and if the boutique you are purchasing from provides direct refund via a refund service (eg Global Blue), a cut of the refund goes to them.

But epos, frederique constant and mido are $200 watches to many.

Your call.

if your many means the pantry auntie, receptionist and the young hr intern then your choices are only tag, rolex and omega.

don't need for AP, PP, JLC, UN, Zenith, etc. just stick to the seiko-powered tag.

...and your MIC CK

why get the tissot when you have this

i think visiodate is a better choice.

for ML you have to look at the Masterpiece collection which is out of your budget

Design competitions normally don't care about the size, unless it is very extreme.

I think that most ang mos would find Nomos a bit small, too. But they tend to be more open to not-so-famous watch companies in the first place, many of them won't care that it isn't a Rolex and does not look like one.

I have considered them more seriously since you pointed out that the lugs make them wear big. But I'm not that keen on a relatively dressy watch....and I have other watches in my sights...... like RGM's 801 Aircraft.....

Epos, Mido, Vulcain, Romain Jerome and Frederique Constant etc are not AP, PP, JLC, UN and Zenith.

If the pantry aunty, receptionist and young HR intern or reasonably normal person on the street doesn't know what it is, it means ive been carroted.

Imagine paying 5k for a Vulcain or Nubeo or Milus instead of a Breitling. Is it a smart choice?

You may think that If we are looking for exclusivity and design, why not? But then again, when the company declines, what will be the actual value of it?

What is the actual value of a watch without recognition? I'd rather take a Rolex.

Do you think its worth 5k? Or should we warm up to reality - that it is actually a $200 watch

CK makes the best cheap quartz dress watches in the industry. Can you find a much better design than that?

I will only recommend these 6 brands to anyone looking for a sub 3k watch, new or preowned.

1. Tudor
2. Omega
3. Baume and Mercier
4. Sinn
5. Breitling
6. Tag Heuer

These 6 brands combine brand appeal, design, true value, resale value, recognition and craftmanship. Another 3 secondary brands for your consideration.

Secondary brands

1. Bell and Ross
2. Fortis
3. Oris

Note - BR watches are not the best made ones out there
