Are Tudor watches necessarily cheaper in Hong Kong as compared with Singapore? I'm heading there in 2 days' time. Thanks!

thinking of getting another timepiece on my overseas trip 2 mths later... will feel like i'm doing myself injustice if i miss out this chance... :s13::s13:

what do you guys think of the following choices as quasi-dress watches? Am leaning towards RG...

i will only consider either 15400 or daytona, but since u already have the daytona then definitely 15400.

Tissot Visodate uses the ETA 2836 movement. When fully charged/wound, it should have a power reserve of about 40 hours, give or take a couple of hours.

Yes, when the power in the mainspring runs out, the movement will stop. It will not harm the watch, as long as you let it run at least once a month or so. Actually, if the watch is not running constantly, it has the advantage of reducing wear and tear ;)

Like Patryn has pointed out, one disadvantage to letting your watch stop frequently is that you'll have to set the date and time (and day as well for the Visodate) each time you want to wear it, which can be bothersome :s8:

thenk you for the reply, but if i let the watch stop the movement frequently wouldnt i need to have the watch service because i heard if the watch is kept frequently unwind there will need to apply some grease in order to let the gears run, and just normal winding will do right when the movement stops? the shop i bought from recommend me to wind 30 times

Firstly, I need a watch that is practical for my everyday use, which is why I select the date option. Whereas for the logo dial, it took me quite some time to consider which one to purchase. Aesthetically wise for the dial only, I can presume the one with logo looks more pleasing to me, which is not that plain.

However, one man’s meat is one man’s poison. I believe few bros & sis here would prefer the 50 Eur upgrade to the non-logo version, cos of the rotor upgrade. Also, the plain dial without the logo is more historically linked to the history of stowa.

IMO, go for what you like. I bought 2 additional straps as well cos I can’t really decide what strap i thought would go well with me as well. Waiting time is 3.5 months. Long wait. But also long enough to allow me to think hard and save up for my first pilot. For those who know IWC, you could compare to MarkXVI, or 15, which have a almost similar design, but about 4 times as expensive as stowa.

Great! Been contemplating between the logo and no logo as well. If all things fall smooth for me, i will also follow suit on the logo with date.

erm, i think that's total rubbish. Modern lubricants don't dry up so easily, it'll take years before you need to start worrying about it. Actually, that's why the recommended service interval is 3-5 years, due to the need to replace/top up the lubricants in the movement. I think as long as the watch is run at least once a month, it'll be enough to make sure everything is working fine.

just normal winding will do right when the movement stops? the shop i bought from recommend me to wind 30 times
The Visodate you have is an automatic, that means, it winds itself automatically. If it has stopped, you can restart it by winding it a couple of turns by hand or giving it a few gentle shakes, just to get it going. Thereafter, just wear it and your normal arm movements will wind it automatically (unless you are some kind of statue that doesn't move at all :s42:). While you can wind it manually, don't do it too often as it's not designed to take the stress of frequent manual winding.

I'm not sure that shop is giving you the best advice... :s8:

What is normal arm movement? Ppl that sit and type will not be winding the spring much at all. Walk and little swing isn't going to wind too. Depending on one daily activity watch maybe dead next morning.

A good auto is design to be wind freq.

I have a desk-bound job, and yes I sit and type all day. But I also walk around, go to toilet, go for lunch etc. I've never had any problems keeping my automatics wound. otoh, ymmv...

You mean wind by hand? Erm, I'm no expert but... Manually Winding an Automatic

"The manual winding mechanism [in an automatic movement] is not as robust as that of a manual winder, and manual winding drives the automatic winding system backwards, putting very high loads on the gear train. It is best if you hand wind automatics as infrequently as possible."

See post #13 on this thread for a diagram to explain how the manual wind mechanism on 28XXs work: Is it bad for an automatic movement to wind it by hand? - Page 2

Other, non-28XX automatic movements may have a stronger manual winding mechanism, but I have no experience with that.

Anyone????
dunno what you mean leh. where got glass that can see thru from side one?

unless you mean reflections. Some watch crystals have anti-reflective coatings applied, similar to glasses/spectacles. This obviously helps to cut down on reflection and glare, enabling it to be read from the side. The downside? It costs more to manufacture. if the coating is on the external surface of the crystal, it's liable to be scratched, thus somewhat negating the scratch-resistant quality of sapphire crystals.
