Watch casing was only scratched up, not broken.

The only thing that broke is the strap... the rubber piece, that is sewed into the strap, so as to maintain the lines of the case and the strap, separated from the strap!

I should get another black strap because i realise that with the new honey-brown croc strap, I don't have a brown belt!!! Can't be wearing a dark grey suit and pants with a watch with a brown strap!!

Thanks, appreciate your views! I was looking at the portofino chrono. Haha.. But I do agree with your point. The mark 17 risks being a neither here nor there watch.

Yeah the Portofino Chrono (even the Portofino Auto) will probably also fetch a better value or retain its value better than the Mark XVII.

I would never go near the Mark XVII or its variants as an IWC-induction piece. Like you surmised, "it risks being a neither here nor there watch".

Hi Guys, really need some help.

Quite torn between ORIS BC3 Advanced Day and Date (selling at 1.5k at allwatches) versus the Hamilton Jazzmaster Auto Chrono (2k at allwatches). Both have automatic swiss movements. Not really bent on having a chronograph, but does anyone have any thoughts on Oris watches? How does it stack up against Hamilton?

Also, any good recommendations for a first watch for someone with a budget of 1.5k?

Hamilton on ETA H21 base on 7750, 7750 movement cost usd$470.

With 1.5k budget u cannot buy the Hamilton. Oris is a decent brand but kinda expensive for my liking.

That budget can get a lesser marketed brand such as epos on eta 2892, better movement cost at usd$290.

Louis erard watches is priced decent iirc if u want a local AD

okay. the bigger one just gets scratched up a lot easier i guess. have swapped it out for a leather strap already. good thing is that it has a dive extension.. which probably will never be used haha

Hey thanks. Finally managed to get a reply from someone here! Hooray.

Anyway, I prefer to get a watch from a local AD as its my first watch and in case anything happens, at least I can send the watch to the AD.

Not really digging the designs from Louis Erard though. But frankly, albeit the price, any opinions on Oris for a first watch? looking at BC3 or BC4 Second Pointer day.
