US$4k+ new for the Militare Vintage, not too bad, imo.

For an indie watch company, prices should be cheap....

A pity most watch companies start out selling cheap and affordable priced watches for the masses when their watches are first launched, and it becomes the devil later by overcharging their clients

Noooo... out of so many nice models from Zenith and you choose the pilot??
Pilot go for the german makes, not zenith.
EP, espada or windsor all look good, not the pilot :s22:

:s13: Calm down:s13: I didn't set out to look for a Pilot watch. But the Pilot Big Date caught my eyes for these reasons:
- nice dial. not too plain and not too busy
- very nice vintage-looking and vintage-feeling strap
- like the overall vintage look
- only Zenith can have the word 'Pilot' on the dial. Great heritage.
- 42mm is a nice size (probably the max for me), case not too thick
- price is within my budget but the lower the better of course
- and have you seen the EP movement at the back? Its eye-popping. I can see myself spending time just looking at it:

The limited edition red accent EP36'000 is great but costs more. And the wife thinks its too loud to go with office wear. Anyway, I have not decided with my wallet :)

That's so true. German makes a better pilot! :D
If choosing a pilot, I say go German and get GO Senator Navigator. :)

The GO SN has a serious shortcoming - no date. Personally I don't like the dial. I did look at GOs when I was hunting for my dress watch. Prices are high. Handled a couple of them and didn't think it had the quality feel. Feels like too. The aesthetics of the movement thru the back is nowhere as attractive as the Pilot BD (to me that is):

There is only 1 pilot watch...dun deceive yourselves

Sorry Chris - but that is one boring watch to me - whether its pilot, dive, ladies, or kid's watch; doesn't matter to me. Anyway, I'm no pilot and in a plane, I sit towards the front of the cabin when on long haul and somewhere in the middle or the rear on short haul flights. Just so happen that watch has the word 'Pilot' in the name. It could have said 'Balloonist' and I may still be tempted. :)

Hey, if this is not 49mm size, I'll have it in my shortlist too:
Longines Avigation Watch Type A-7 - not a 'pilot' watch per se, but aviation related - just like the Zenith.

You might want to check with the bros here whether the hi-beat EP 36000 needs more frequent servicing or not since it's beating at a much higher beat rate?

The only hi-beat watches I own is a Titoni Cosmo99 from my dad. :)

Still the 3 Zeniths - Big Date, Capt Chrono, EP (quite unlikely, too much $$$)

Oops, I hope my comment will not keep you up all night since owls are nocturnal :)

The B&R? Off the top of head, it meets my requirement on price (well within budget, I think) and perhaps the brand being not too common/popular. But that's about it. So no, I won't give it a second look. Is it boring? Yes. It leans on the dressy side, but even if I'm in the market for a dress watch, I will not consider B&R simply because it is not a 'dress watch' brand. That's not how the brand is positioned. No offence OK:)

Well, that was a consideration. Looked up WUS and PM'd with a couple of members there from Singapore who actually own the Big Date. Both are happy. Of course, the watch is only about a year old ..... I'd like to pass my humble watches to my children too! Things are so expensive, maybe in the future, affordable watches are DIY ones like this:

she likes brown leather straps, circular watch faces and dislike small watchees. (normal sized watches should be ok)
