the key chain thing, can someone help translate? it's in chinese right?

it's actually kanji - chinese characters imported into Japan. The latter used to look up to the mighty chinese empire as a powerhouse so imported quite a bit of things from them. It's said even the katakana is a shorthand of chinese characters. (japanese comprises of 3 types of "alphabets": the hiragana, katakana and Kanji)

the first pic is the kanji character of Edo, the old name of tokyo. When tokugawa ieyasu became shogun he moved the capital from kyoto to edo (or known as tokyo now). Tokyoites are also known as edo-ko (child of edo).

the second pic is all the names of the tokugawa lineage. very powerful reign that lasts the longest in japanese history, starting from ieyasu. It is said that "Oda Nobunaga pounded the rice. Hideyoshi baked the cake and Tokugawa
Ieyasu ate it." that's how ppl described the 3 consecutive shoguns who unified Japan.

I also remembered reading that tokugawa was not really of fujiwara (?) or pure blood lineage, hence he was not supposed to be able to be a shogun; but he still faked a document for the tenno to declare he is. when u have the army at your call, there's nothing u can't do eh?

the battle of sekigahara is also a very interesting one, how he played with the psychology of other generals and beat the western army "by firing canons onto one of his allies".

It actually means that the previous 2 warlords did all the job only for Tokugawa to reap the harvest. Those2 were never a shogun, only daimyo.

Not really almost all. I think at most 60%? A lot of guys here very young also one.

I first went in dec 2005 for honeymoon right after our wedding dinner

Had always wanted to do what u did but just could not find the time. With kids now even more difficult. But once they are older we'd definitely go for a trip across the whole Japan
