I believe most of us take the first approach.

However, I do keep a few watches running all the time: My wife's datejusts. She finds it a hassle to unscrew the crown and set the date and time when she needs it so I just keep the watches running. Another watch of hers comes with date day month moonphase, so i keep it running to avoid setting them when it stops.

Agree, my twin winder is under used now. I bought it at first because I had a screw down crown piece, and I didn't want to wear the threads by regular time adjusting. However, now as I get more watches it gets worn less often so I just let it die, also the initial phobia of wearing the threads has gone. Second reason is same as Yato's , wife's watch....which she now hardly wears , preferring her G shock. So the winder is now just a watch case. Admittedly winder was also a fad thing, you know after getting first timepiece you want the works.
