Painted dials have thicker fonts whereas sandwich dials, due to the stenciled front dial, has thinner, more refined fonts.

Some like painted dials and others like sandwich dials so it is down to personal taste.

Unfortunately, I do not have the privilege to own a painted dial Pam so I can't comment on it. However, there are some discussions online that mention that if you look at the watch face sideways, since the lume is "underneath" the stenciled dial, it may not be as bright as the painted dial, where the lume is applied on top of the dial.

However, I would just go for whatever appeals to you.

if you go by pricing, it would appear that panerai puts a premium on sandwich dials, as the models with painted dials tend to be the cheaper base models.

i think sandwich dial is also more "historical", but i can't confirm...

Finally got my hole puncher back and decided to punch the elephant strap whilst in the office!

Measured the buckle's tongue to ensure that the I have chosen the right hole size so the tongue to enter smoothly.

I removed the heavy buckle from my 389 strap and fit it back to this elephant strap for my 351. Thinking of ordering another 1 or 2 more handmade buckles for my other straps though!

i think with the new superluminova, aging really isn't an issue. my pam 233 is dot dial, "I" series which is made in 2006.

lume wise still very satki, much brighter than the AP which is a 2013 watch. doesn't seem to "lose" the lume like a tritium. i think only the tritium dials currently exhibit the phenomenon of "aging"... but then again maybe we just need to own the new superluminova dials for another decade or so?

I suspect there are very few people that are very particular about the lume brightness between a sandwich & a painted dial that they would return it and choose the other.

For me, it is just aesthetics and it is one of my lower priorities when selecting a Pam. And at the moment, it seems like all my Pams in my "collection" are sandwich dials... *face palm*
