Yeah I do know tritium is phased out (same as rolex) but did it happen during the G to I series transition?

Not sure about dates of transition for PAM. For rolex, the transition from tritium to luminova and super luminova is probably around 1999 A series.

Watches with tritium lumes most likely no longer work (the lume). But tritium markers can age beautifully (see luck) to give a yellowish patina. U can see PAM try to artificially create patina on some of their models and most recently the omega seamaster 300 2014 re-issue as well.

cause superluminova wasn't invented? but tritium is relatively safe but it's the factory that are exposed to it that's why they stopped production.
just read that why Panerai Radiomir is call Radiomir

tritium has a half life so once it's dead, it's gone. lol. superluminova uses light to re-charge, hence can last longer.

Half-Life.... Man.. the last time I came across this phrase was during my schooling days... how time has flown by...
I only remember that it will many hundreds or even thousands of years for a small drop of radioactive material to so called "die off"...

but its good that they stopped using such materials...

Tritium is the old school model. after that they change all to superluminova because tritium is radioactive.
And discont model are usually more ex. lol

Worth reading up more on the tritium PAMs. I have read articles that go along the lines of saying the tritium over time leaves some patina on the hands giving it a vintage look or something which is very prized. Hence compands higher price. To me its a little twisted reasoning but....what do I know haha.

To my limited off-hand knowledge, the panerai brand seen (some?) switch(es) in ownership. Those pieces of earlier years or under old ownership maybe more rare or sought after, explaining the price diff.

My knowledge also half-baked, but I thought Panerai only had one ownership which is Richemont in 1995 or something. Before that actually the name "Panerai" as a brand didn't exist, of course I'm not referring to the history with the Italian military and all that which goes back further but that was when it was very much more obscure.

radioactive!!! why in the first place these watch makes use them?

Don't have to freak out bro. In case you guys haven't realise the connection, our M16 rifles have tritium tip.

Don't you remember the 3SGs in BMTs always shouting: "Don't oil the tritium tip you bladdy gu niangs!!"

Strange, I thought E was the last series with tritium.

Anw, if you are going to get a tritium one just beware. The tritium on the skeleton hands may start to crack and even flake and you wouldn't want to see the flakes running amok in the dial.

You may also come across 024s with polished bezels. These are special because only A, B and C series have an all-polished bezel. More collectible compared to the other 024s since only 4,500 of these are out there.

Did some googling. From paneristi:

"Watches made between the "rebirth" of Panerai in 1993 to the acquisition of the company by the Vendôme group in 1996/97 are usually called "pre-Vendôme" models. The basic pre-Vendôme range consisted of some 44mm hand-wind watches with the classic 44mm Luminor case, and some 42mm Mare Nostrum chronographs. The line also included limited edition Slytech watches, endorsed or commissioned (depending on who you believe) by the film star Sylvester Stallone. The Slytechs are distinguished by the signature of Mr Stallone engraved on the caseback, and some writing on the dial.

All the pre-Vendôme models came on straps with the large "bottle opener" or "fancy" buckle, although the Mare Nostrum buckles were smaller than the full-sized ones.

Most watches came in an oak box, with additional paperwork and straps, however the Slytechs came in a very large box with all manner of gadgets such as the miniature submarine model."

Vendome itself was fully bought over by Richemont group (previously only majority owner) around 97,98. I am not sure if the vendome name still exists today..

That's why I thought there were more than 1 change in ownership...

Each piece will patina differently hence giving each watch a different character. This appeals to collectors who want something with character and different from all the other pieces out there. Hence the higher price that some of the similarly vintage rolexes have over the modern ones.

My dad just got diagnosed for shingles. Now worried abt our kids at home cos he looks after them everyday.

Taking one week childcare leave to look after them as we also just had a new domestic helper.

Summary, shingles is not contagious person to person but if your kids have not had chicken pox, the varicella zoster virus spreaded may cause development of chicken pox.


Anyway take care ya! the PAMs are always there and u will probably be in time for your self-declared cooling off period by end June to acquire that PAM!
