1) Buy a watch she has been eyeing for the Longest of all time. Best is one whereby she has the $$$ to hoot but always hesitate
2) Since this is a full diamond quartz ladies watch. There's nothing much to ask about the watch itself. The watch speaks for itself but its the other things you will need to clarify.
- check with AD where are the diamonds are from and what is the rating of the diamonds.
(Its the same for buying items with crystals. You will wanna know which company the crystals are from)
- are there any certificates issued for the diamond to certify they are real diamonds
Some watch companies will issue diamond certificates as proof that these are real diamonds, which company, the rating etc
- is there a separate warranty for the diamonds if the diamonds drop or gets chipped. If not, does Longines's warranty cover the diamonds too.
- Demand for the watch to be replaced with a brand new battery
- Check for any potential scratches, markings, chips on the diamonds etc.
3) Watch Warranty
- Offered by who? Longines or Cortina
- Duration
- What are covered under the warranty
- What type of servicing are covered under the Warranty.
4) Do your homework too
-Are there better ladies watches in this price range?
-Are there nicer ones in this price range?
-Research more about this watch first before you head down to Cortina.
5) Be served
- Its a well-known Watch AD. Let the SA serve you. Their primary task is to try to get the $6000 from your pocket to their pocket. So it's their job to make you that "Damn Shiok, Damn good" feel. So if any one time you don't feel comfortable while you're in the shop, step out and go to other outlets.
- Ask him why you can't have the original invoice? Is something fishy going on?
- Ask him whether the 20% is the standard AD discount or is the 20% much more than the Standard ones.
- Ask him will Longines honour the Warranty with only the charge slip and not the official invoice from Cortina? Get him to call Longines on the spot to clarify and out it on loud speaker, if possible.
Lastly, enjoy the whole Experience.
Buying a gift for the most important woman in your life is never an easy task but at the same time, it could be alot of fun as well.
Hi Henabi,
Excellent Advice, learnt some key things from you already.
1) She always liked ultra small rectangular faced watches, hence the selection. My regret is that I didnt get the watch while we are in Switzerland, mainly because I didnt know what I should be looking for.
2) Saw some postings about Longines being part of Swiss Group in SG. After sales service was stated bad, because its not the "top tier" brand compared to Omega and other high end brands.
- Will ask again where are the diamonds are from and what is the rating of the diamonds. What about crystals? is there some company/branding of diamond and crystals i should feel confident about?
- There are certificates issued for the diamond to certify they are real diamonds on a separate warranty card with the serial number intact. will share when I have it.
- will share on diamond chips /drop warrant coverage.
- This is a good one! Demand for the watch to be replaced with a brand new battery, since its a quartz movement watch, battery leaks will destroy the watch. I will get them to do this.
- Will check for any potential scratches, markings, chips on the diamonds etc.
3) Watch Warranty
- Offered by Swiss Group at Habourfront
- Duration: 2 years watch internal, 1 year battery.
- Will check what type of servicing are covered under the Warranty.
4) Will check on other brands, just dont know where to look.
5) Be served
- According to him, the 20% discount is a private discount offered by him, and Swiss group will penalised them if found out that the watch is selling at this discount. I still feel its fishy, maybe some brothers here know if this is a usual practice?
- 20% discount is much more than the Standard ones.
- According to him, All the watches are tag with serial numbers including diamonds in their system. And Swiss Group can trace back to them using the warranty cards, did I miss out anything?
Yes very well said below, learnt something today and its become interesting.
Lastly, enjoy the whole Experience.
