For the price of the system51 watch, might as well get a real mechanical self winding seagull. Made in China some more.

that was what the author was alluding to - that the Chinese have better cheap movements.

However I think he missed the point. Swatch Group is a business first than a watchmaker. Swatch Group needs something else cheaper to compete in the industry. the innovation is not in the movement, it is in the production process.

having as little human intervention as possible, a disposable movement is completely consistent with the Swatch Watch brand mission of "cheap and cheerful". this will help them expand Swatch Watch product lines with healthier margins as scale grows.

the timegraph numbers shows the truth though - that in the production process the system51 movement was only regulated in one position, so accuracy is going to be way off on the whole.

to general public who don't have much knowledge about watches, [Made in Swiss] has much better reputation compared to [Made in China] if you get what I mean.

but still... just buy a watch you are comfortable and within your budget.

I think SWATCH made a very smart move by introducing System51. Because this will make mechanic watches extremely affordable to people who can't afford luxury entry level automatic brands like Tissot.
