I went to Seiko boutique at Vivocity after dinner yesterday and manged to try the Snowflake and the limited edition GMT hi-beat.

On the wrist, the Snowflake is kinda small and light, and IMHO a bit like wearing normal Seiko 5 automatic.
OTOH, the GMT feels solid, with the right heft, just like wearing a Sub or SD.

When we left the shop, my wife asked me "$10k for a Seiko???. We can get a Rolex for that kind of money".
I just smiled and said that it is a Grand Seiko.

She is right though. I just wish Seiko can market their GS better.

The problem is the image Seiko has created for themselves many many years.
its : "affordable. Durable. Automatic watches."

Its gonna cost them a bomb to re position Grand Seiko. Unless they set up a separate boutique purely for Grand Seiko.

right now seiko is focused on mass market, and delivering oem movements.

GS has always traditionally been a domestic only business, with some forays with partners (e.g. Tong Sia in SG) and their Ananta line for the US.

The opening of the Seiko flagship store in the USA i believe signals a new chapter for them with GS finally available in the US in its pure form (Goodbye Ananta?). I'm sure we'll start to see more comprehensive PR, social media and news from the US that will build brand equity over time.

its like toyota and lexus. eventually they'll get there, but with no particular hurry.

Precisely the point for me to get my SBGE009 with such breeze! My wife only see and say chey Seiko only, didn't even bother to ask me how much it cost

GS is discreet, doesn't attract attention haha.
My colleagues don't notice it at work at all.

Agree with the marketing though, people associate Seiko with cheap and reliable watches
Some of friends keep telling me for price of GS should get panerai/rolex all that

I am curious about the deployant clasp that come with the watch. Am thinking of getting the deployant clasp from Seiya but only thing hold me back is the single fold style. Was worry the clasp will not sit properly on the wrist. Any review of it?

If GS does market their watches better. Expect to pay at least 50% more for the same quality
