Went to see Uncle Goh because I found another one of my late granddad's watches!

It is a 1972 Seiko 5 that was untouched since 1994, which was the year that he passed on. It is a bit unique because the watch has my late granddad's name engraved at the back. Uncle Goh said that it could be like a Long Service Award watch and he was spot on as that was exactly what my grandma said when she found the watch and passed it over to me.

I gave it to Uncle Goh, thinking that it needed some servicing but Uncle Goh just looked at me strangely, shook the watch a couple of times and it started right up! He declined to service it because he said that it has a heavy duty movement and that it is just fine as it is.

So I decided to buy a leather watch strap instead of using the metal bracelet and it was good to go.

Cost of strap: S$12
Brief history of the Seiko and that it is the 2nd watch from my late grandfather: PRICELESS! :)

Now I don't have to fight with my brother to wear the Pagol watch. Lalala! :s13:

congrats!

I suggest you check out the model you want from the boutique, then search for it at the ADs..... because the latter gives better discounts.

after that, don't forget to share wristshots here hor! :s12:

2nd hand can get, although value not as good as rolex/pam/ap, it's better than buying first hand. Got a friend buy a franck muller watch for 19k 4 years back, now shops offering him 6k buy in. Resale value very very pathetic. Lol.

FM is a single man operation.
and the business is languishing in the mud pit cos nothing was happening in the past few years.

I feel for FM owners cos FM might close down.
If FM close down I think the FM watch prices might nosedive

Hmmmmmm.... FM lover.... people who like FM are into artisan horology... I am sure you are one who appreciate Arts and finer details :)

You can try to go sincere watch and check with them. There is one at Taka.

FM is a different category of Automatic watch as compared to brands like Omega, Tag Heuer and Rolex. They focus on complications and exotic inventions, like tourbillion n perpetual calendar.

My dream watch from FM is their Casablanca series.... its a beauty.

Wow thanks for your replies and insights!

@henabi, no lah heh. Just that the opportunity came up and I was seriously considering it.

anyway, didn't get it in the end - thought it was a bit loud - it was a conquistador.

I like to think i'm one who likes somewhat understated stuff what works :s12: to this end i've recently been mesmerised by Grand Seikos, but it looks like in SG there isn't very big a selection + following eh?
