Hi pros !

I am deciding to buy my first lux watch and I'm deciding between the following :

1) Tag Heuer Carrera

2) Longines Masters Collection

3) Omega Moonwatch Professional

4) Omega Moonwatch Co-axial

Some questions :
1) Should I get a bracelet or a leather strap one ? My concern is that usually strap need to have matching belts or shoes but bracelet would be easier to match with clothes. Some also say that should get with bracelet because leather straps are easier to buy in the market.

2) For resale value, I read around that usually Tags have a higher resale value during to brand recognition and higher brand equity.

3) For the Omegas, do they require manual winding ?

Hope some pros down here can advise to see what would be a good watch as a first lux watch :)

Are these few watches around the same price bracket? What is the price of new one now?

If u want a watch-watch, Moonwatch. This one should have the best resale value.

If u want a modern smart looking watch, Carrera. Tag resale value is quite low as typically only newbies looking for their first luxuary watch will be buying. Many Tag owners after a while will upgrade to watch-watch of Omega/Panerai/Tudor/Rolex.

btw ... I am one that like Tag's design. Still have quite a few Tags myself.

And lastly, buy bracelet. There are better and cheaper leather straps online.

Wah bro your choice of watches quite different, but i see you favour chronographs.

These are just my personal opinion from having owned Omegas including the moonwatch and also Tag.

First off, Tag has crap resale value, it is perceived (wrongly in my opinion) by many to be a "fashion" brand with more marketing than substance, i have flipped tags at huge losses...Sadly the same can be said of Longines and even Omega. Basically when you buy a lux watch, don't think about re-sale value, just be prepared to take a big hit when you sell. Unless you are willing to swing for more high end brands or buy used.

I always prefer to buy a watch on bracelet as i am bracelet guy, i find bracelets more durable and comfortable in our weather here in Singapore. It is also easier to match to the color of my clothes/pants etc. Plus $$ wise, buying a watch on bracelet is always more economical as leather straps are cheap and easy to find while stock SS bracelets from lux brands cost an arm and a leg, for e.g. i wanna add a SS bracelet to my Tudor BB and i just found one on sale for around $1000..ouch right? while purchasing the BB with bracelet in the first place is only 300-400 differential in initial retail price?

The 2 Omega speedmasters that you listed, the moonwatch is a manual wind 1861 movement which also happens to be the most classic speedmaster and many a watch collectors first foray into a luxury chronograph with history and is relatively "cheap". I had one for 5-6 years and i must say it was a tough and reliable watch. The other speedmaster is co-axial and thus an automatic watch and a lot more expensive compared to the moonwatch.

Personally if budget is limited, i would go for the Omega moonwatch (1861), even better to get it used for around 3k. If $$ is no issue and you like tag then instead of going for the 1887 Carrera you can consider their Carrera Calibre 36 which houses a Zenith highbeat Primero chronograph movement. Personally though if i want to spend that kind of $$ i might as well get a Zenith....
