Anybody has a 55 Fathoms dial to let go any idea where I can get one locally? Trying my luck before I resort to yobokies or 10watches.

They are "frowned upon" if you can put it that way, because many people don't find it worth to pay exorbitant amounts of money for a generic movement that can be bought at low hundreds of dollars, no matter the modification put into it.

But eta movements are proven reliable workhorses over the years. If you really like a particular model, my suggestion is not be so caught up over the whole in-house movement 'craze'.

Like what Paladium said, if you like the watch, just go ahead. ETA movements are reliable and easily serviceable by most decent watch makers.

Like it or not, we are not really paying for the movements (at least the mid-ranged watches). We are paying for the branding (advertising), design and packaging.

zulu straps hardly have that much excess strap at the end when tucked unlike nato

tia gong it doesn't get soaked with water like the nato and zulus.

my wrist size is always in-between holes. perlon is no hole just poke through the weave

thats why im thinking of hooting lol. shiet man too many straps.

how are the excess strap tucked away for perlon straps? not many pics online showing this

perlon looks nicer thats why I choose it over Zulu.

me not watch guru but i think it's ok...then you have other divisions like COSC for example

It also depends what type of watch you are getting, and the complications. My Black Bay has no date or chronograph for example...just very plain movement

I wouldn't say "frowned upon". How about, "I'm ok with ETA but prefer in-house"? :)

I do have a gripe against the ETA movements, at least the popular ones like the 7750 is the restriction of not being able to set the date from 10pm to 2am thereabouts. It complicates the time and date setting process too. And everything has to set forward (clockwise).
