Suggestions/Opinions on watch choice

Hi all,

Planning to get my first automatic watch soon. However I am new to watch so come here to seek some advices.

Budget : 3~4k.. can stretch up to ~5k if I really like the watch..

Watch Preference: Leather Strap. Not too dressy as i wear T-shirt and Polo tee quite often. I have small wrist so maybe 39 - 42 mm diameter??


I am currently looking at these few

-Maurice Lacroix Pontos Date
-Maurice Lacroix LES CLASSIQUES CHRONOGRAPHE PHASES DE LUNE
-CARRERA Calibre 7 Twin Time


I heard for ML only worth getting their Masterpiece series? Tag Heuer overpriced?

Please advice..or maybe suggest some other that suits my criteria??

Don't think anyone here will give up on their mechanical watches. I have a couple of smart watches and I'm still wearing my automatics and quartz.

basically, the main issue will still be the battery life.

Buy toys maybe video games if one has approval from the queen

sure, i teach my kids at N1/N2 to tell the time. especially since they will be attending school and exposed to schedules in a day. not difficult.

Thanks everyone! Well I already placed an order for the Blumo so that'll be my last watch of the year, if self-restraint prevails. Never expected to be a father of two at this age but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

The Blumo is a great choice and if you feel the itch there are a couple of upgrades e.g. hands, sapphire, and of course straps. Easily can tahan you until your THIRD comes along

Okay need some opinions here. Was planning to pick up a Rolex..probably a SubC date in black or green (most likely green) but now I am also strangely drawn to the Pam 312. It's totally different in terms of design asthetics from anything that i have now while the SubC date DNA can be found in all of my other divers and the display case back is a plus point for me.

I am hesitant as i know next to nothing about Panerai watches, total noob, never really paid any attention to them before.

My primary concerns are:

1. Price, not sure where i can find a 312 at a good price
2. Re-sale value and ease of selling if i do not like it
2. Reliability of the in house P9000 movement, heard got lots of problems
3. Accuracy of the P9000 since it is not COSC certified

For me right now, the Rolex seem to be the safer choice as the brand is well known for making reliable and rugged watches and since the movement is COSC certified, accuracy out of the box is more or less assured. I am an accuracy freak and if i pay so much $$ for a watch that keeps poorer time than my cheaper automatics i will go insane and flip it.

So any Pam 312 and Rolex owners care to educate me?

I just got my pam not too long ago so I'll try to chip in as much as I can!

1.) I would suggest going grey if you don't mind not having the service of an AD. I'm not saying that grey dealer's service ain't good. Just that you won't be purchasing it say.. From Hourglass Malmaison. Good amount of savings! Can start from Chuan Watch or Watchlink.

2.) umm.. Pam 312 is one of the most resale-able models due to it's popularity.. So no worries.

3.) well.. I've gotten my Pam at July this year, no issues thus far!

4.) My Pam is currently running about +5s a day which is reasonable to me.. Of course if I compared to say, my dad's Rolex. It's incomparable.
