Hi!

I just got my pam not too long ago so I'll try to chip in as much as I can! :)

1.) I would suggest going grey if you don't mind not having the service of an AD. I'm not saying that grey dealer's service ain't good. Just that you won't be purchasing it say.. From Hourglass Malmaison. Good amount of savings! Can start from Chuan Watch or Watchlink.

2.) umm.. Pam 312 is one of the most resale-able models due to it's popularity.. So no worries.

3.) well.. I've gotten my Pam at July this year, no issues thus far!

4.) My Pam is currently running about +5s a day which is reasonable to me.. Of course if I compared to say, my dad's Rolex. It's incomparable.

Last but not least.. Let me poison you with a picture! :D

Kum sia for your quick reply.

What kind of price should i look at from gray market and what kind of price from AD?

What's your wrist size by the way?

Admittedly, the collection of Orient watches at the AD, though decent, is not exactly that big.

However, the boss offers outstanding services IMO and the prices are, er hem, respectable to say the least :)

Happy hunting!

good choice on the watch.
btw does your AD carries alot of other orient?

Hi!

Chuan Watch is currently retailing it at $9.2K

Viewing Panerai | New Watches :: Chuan Watch

As for Watchlink.. they are retailing it at $8.9K

Panerai Watches

AD wise.. I'm not too sure. Should be about $10.5K? I remember Ion boutique retails at $10.95K the last time I asked.

Umm.. my wrist size is 6". Just nice for a 44mm watch. :)

That's a big a$$ watch. How do you tell the tide?

at the 10 o'clock small dial - the red hands will move with the tide from low to high to low, real time.

there's also a TIDE mode which allows you to scroll through the hours of the day and the red hand will move accordingly, so you can check.

check out the rest of the features here

edit: yeah its huge. 46mm without crown and about 55mm vertical, biggest piece i have. its light though so still wears comfortably. and this is one watch anyone can pull off as its meant to wear large.

Okay need some opinions here. Was planning to pick up a Rolex..probably a SubC date in black or green (most likely green) but now I am also strangely drawn to the Pam 312. It's totally different in terms of design asthetics from anything that i have now while the SubC date DNA can be found in all of my other divers and the display case back is a plus point for me.

I am hesitant as i know next to nothing about Panerai watches, total noob, never really paid any attention to them before.

My primary concerns are:

1. Price, not sure where i can find a 312 at a good price
2. Re-sale value and ease of selling if i do not like it
2. Reliability of the in house P9000 movement, heard got lots of problems
3. Accuracy of the P9000 since it is not COSC certified

For me right now, the Rolex seem to be the safer choice as the brand is well known for making reliable and rugged watches and since the movement is COSC certified, accuracy out of the box is more or less assured. I am an accuracy freak and if i pay so much $$ for a watch that keeps poorer time than my cheaper automatics i will go insane and flip it.

So any Pam 312 and Rolex owners care to educate me?

Hi the main thing I want to advise is that the Sub and the Pam are 2 very different looks. The Sub has a the typical dive watch look, so while good looking it is a very common look. However, the Pam has it's unique look, suitable for when you want to make a statement. When you want to keep out of attention and take a laid back day, you wouldn't want to be wearing the Pam ( especially if it's a 47mm Pam like mine).

Accuracy wise the p9000 has been around since 2009 and it and it's variants are in several models which say are produced 1000 a year, so if there are 5 models ( I don't know, ask the Pam pros) it's like 25,000 pieces since then, it's a tested movement. And in terms of accuracy, it runs at different speeds in the various rest positions, so by playing around how you lay your watch at night, you can "self regulate " it to very accurate. Same with Rolex. To add, Panerai certifies their watches to their own formula for accuracy, for their non-COSC models, it's in their booklet that comes with the watch.

And I love the time setting mechanism on the p9000. First notch moves your hour hand in hourly increments while not hacking your seconds hands. Good for people who travel. That's how you also set the date. 2nd notch adjusts the minutes and hacks the seconds. I find the rotar charges the movement very effectively, on par with my Valjoux 7750. And it's a 3 day reserve due to double barrels.

And if you want Pam buy grey and save a lot. I can recommend you my seller...100% reliable as good as buying from an AD. Save you the trouble from searching.

Yup I understand they are two very different watches. I have more than a few sub like divers hence my hesitation to hoot the subC. I like date complications hence I also ruled out the milgauss GV which was my second choice. The Pam would be something totally different for my small collection and I believe I can carry off the 44mm size.

Only concern now I guess is resale...is it as good at retaining value as Rolex?

Thanks will check out the links...

Grey listing as $8,950 but I think shouldn't be difficult to ask for $8,700 and bargain, and it's latest 'Q' series.

On resale, bro you and I buy the common pieces sure will lose on resale ...unless you are talking about rare high end collectible pieces which probably here only iceflight can afford :s13:....don't hope to get good resale vs your buying price. If you are really concerned about cutting loses should you want to sell, then you know la....buy 2nd hand. For me, I don't feel comfortable buying 2nd hand , but then I don't plan on selling too.

er guess i liked the design and the fact that it's supposed to a limited edition.
Was trying to get the watch for less than 6k, first time venturing into this price range.
Previously most expensive watch was Tissot Visodate for about 800 SGD.
Bargained for 100 minutes plus at the shop:s22:
Tried searching for this model online didnt get much reference prices in Singapore :/

I think it depends a lot on what u are looking for in a watch.

If as u said, a sub is very similar to watches in your collection, why get another one that looks e same.

Panerai on the other hand is very customizable, a different exotic strap on your 312 will look very different from another 312 using a different strap. Hence e joy (or pain) in getting a Pam.

Is there other places that sell grand seiko?
Not that i will be getting any more watches anytime soon

I would have thought buying from Japan would be cheaper? Sellers like Seiya, higuchi or chino can actually source for you upon request. GS by default got international warranty.

Besides the jap sellers, now got at least 2-3 Indonesian sellers that can also source GS at good prices.

But then from Seiko boutique is safest I guess.
