Will it really allow buyers now to make earnings in future? Or people really want the watch so chiong to buy first :S

SNB interest rates are now in the negative. It doesn't make sense for other banks to put their money with the Swiss anymore. Once the money start flowing out, chf will drop again. The Swiss Govt is hoping the drop in chf will make their export cheaper and further support growth of their economy.

So, don't hurry to buy your next Swiss watch!

IIRC its been negative since last dec but just gotten worse

problem is the dealers never reduce price. prices go up year after year.

Does anyone remember whether the prices of watches drop during the financial meltdown?

I guess the general consensus is: don't rush to buy - only buy when you are ready.

Was window shopping not long ago, so here goes: b) about S$7000 upwards before 8%, c) about S$6100 and d) about S$11200.

Note that b and d stock wise quite thin on the ground.

sub at $11,200 might as well buy KLM ticket ($999 now), go to italy and purchase - even before tax rebate the watch will be around $9000.

Most people cant tell what watch brand it is.

Today happen to have a meeting with a CEO of a company. Saw his watch which I must say fit his attire and he was carrying it well. Across the table (about 2.5m away) I thought it was a Lange. It had a dress look, about the right size, look emaculately finished catching the light and all. I tried to steal a closer look. Could make out a cursive "G" and thought "Glashutte"? Nah, it also had a symnol above that I couldnt make out. It also had a complication that was not common.

After leaving I tried some googling thinking the complication looked like that on a Tag Heuer Grand Carrera. My answer was there, not a common Grand Carrera.

So I learnt that in most of the situations in life, people cant make out a $100k watch from a $10k watch. Unless its decked in jewels etc or a Rolex sub, Panerai which are distinctly unmistakable. Of course if Im someone who is aware of what every Lange looked like I wouldnt have thought it was but who would ..only a very few WIS know.

Just thought to share that.

My MD wears an Alba. She told me she doesnt believe in branded goods. Powerful hong kong lady she is..

My direct boss wears a diamond dial DJ and her husband is a WIS. She completely believes in my horo love haha

I think it's more about where one puts their money. Personally, I'd rather spend my hard earned money on a nice timepiece instead of an overpriced car but it may be vice versa for someone else.

I guess being addicted to watches is a much lesser evil than say, drinking, smoking or gambling.

I do agree about the printing $ part though...lol.

i usually keep my interest in the watch, and the person wearing it separate....

its where you want to put your money, or in some cases debt.

happy is the man with the paid off house and car and has enough to support his lifestyle regardless the watch he wears.

Personally, I feel how we indulge our money is not important. It could be devoted to our family, kids, cars, houses, watches, etc.

My only mantra is, if the money is not solicited through ill-gotten means, etc. It is perfectly fine.

If someone earns 20K a year after tax (one of life certainties ) and spents 19K on something he/she truly desires - no judgment will be made (although mathematically or morally, some may find this not very tasteful or totally unacceptable)

But it's very normal to envy our friends who definitely have access (or cash) to all these nice toys. It some cases, it motivates us to work hard (or harder) to achieve our goals

Lastly, clothes we wear, cars we drive, homes we live in or even watches we wear - ultimately don't maketh a man. Live happy my friends

Similar to some who are willing to spend many thousands of dollars on branded bags. To me, what is important is spend within your means and be happy. There must be sufficient savings for rainy days.
