Hey guys. I have this cheapo mechanical watch I bought a long time ago. The watch itself is maybe 30 years old. Its a french brand, Yema, and is handwind only.

Are there any places I can get the watched serviced? I don't want any parts replaced, just lubrication and maybe some cleaning.

and limited edition too right? same family as the brown dial a few posts earlier...who is going to complete the triplet with the silver dial?

from experience seiko's sunburst are hard to capture in pictures, and have to be seen to be believed.

the sarb isn't too shabby (but i'm sure the GS will be much better):

Wow! This thing is automatic but regulated by a quartz? Isn't that ... the same as spring drive? :s13::s11:

no not regulated by a quartz, a battery runs a current through a coil around a tuning fork that causes it to hum at 360HZ.

this is comparable to the beat of a quartzs (1 per second) and mechanicals (5 to 10 per seconds). 300hz is imperceptible to the human eye so the accutron was the first "continous sweep" seconds hand.

It's actually very different from spring drive. Read up and u will see.

a similarity is the removal of the balance wheel that is the heart of the mechanical watch - its that part that gives a watch a ticking heartbeat that we are so fond of.

from that point of view, a spring drive has more in common to an accutron than to a mechanical movement.

maybe the next horological innovation will be a rotor-driven turning fork movement that is cheaper to assemble than a spring drive.
