Sorry, don't have a "watch vocabulary" as you guys. I'm very new to all of this.

I meant powerful as Powerful wrist presence.

And I don't want to limit myself because based on what i've google-ed, I found out about "Micro brands".

Please school this newbie..

i suppose that's down to your individual preference.

with a suit, the cartier santos100 is really nice. esp if dress in black/white tones.
if i may shamelessly use my own pics.....

I find panerai radiomirs with polished cases dressy as well. my personal pref is the pam424.

Else you may fancy a skeleton watch in steel? also my pic

I suppose wrist presence as easily recognized by others from just a glance? then santos and panerai should be good for suits IMHO :)

Tag has really poor resale value. If you are like me and tend to get bored and sell, must buy used or at deep discount to minimize loss. Anyway tag makes nice watches but 7k plus for a calibre 1887? Not worth? Might as well get speed master pro and save some money or top up and get a tag with calibre 36 or a Zenith chronograph.

Sent from Sony D6653 using GAGT

callibre 36 = el primero

this is interesting from a historical point of view as Heuer and Zenith were competiting to release the first chrono. ironically now we get a zenith in a (tag) heuer!

only possible as LVMH owns both Tag Heuer and Zenith today.

Not many watches hold their value well, Tag is not one of them.
So which criteria is more important, something you like or economic value?
Cal 1887 is contentious bcos Tag says it in-house but it's based on a seiko movement.
theres quite a bit of options for 7k

Its a licensed tech from Seiko, contentious only because of exaggerated marketing from Tag Heuer PR folks.

I can't remember which movement but believe it was a high end movement.

Many other watches claim in-house are actually improved/beautified ETA movements -IWC comes to mind- I see no difference in practice here.

first things first - a dress watch usually means for a suit/tux so that rules out all things sporty - dive watches in particular. of course fashion is how you make it to be, and if you can carry it off like James Bond...... you can do what you like.

iu

secondly dress watches typically are thin and small so that it doesn't break the shape of the suit sleeve or catch on the cuff of the shirt. 20 years ago 36-38mm was the standard. Today its 39-40mm. At a stretch IWC offers oversized dress watches at 42mm. Do you really need it at 44mm?

currently lusting over this. lol

You are not alone in your lusting. Something about GO draws me to their pieces (German flair?)...but JLC is pulling me the other way with their richer history and mastery of movements. Something like this is likely my next purchase and shelving a 2nd PAM.

this one with the sexy plexi!

Didn't this just go at a huge discount at the Dickson sale few months back?

Dunno, wasn't there. But if it was I'd be interested to know the discounted price (after taking into recommended pricing inflation), as this is still highly sought after by mcqueen fans.
